Bad trade by Colorado. They honestly haven't had great moves the last 12 months.

Big price, but I've never been super high on Barron, and Avs have the depth to afford it.

Maybe they were impressed that Lekhonen was somehow an even player after 58 games on team with the worst goal differential in the league?

i anticipate lehkonen will be very good for colorado. no doubt the price was high but they need production from their 3rd line.

I like Barron and this was a big price to pay for a guy who's underachieved the majority of his career. Career year as a pending UFA rarely ends up well for the team on the other end of the hook.

I've seen the "career year" thing a couple times. Wouldn't a team pushing for the cup want players having career years?

    This.

Hey the price was high, and as a Habs fan I'm ecstatic sad as it is to see Lekky go. But man, what's there not to like about Lehkonen? This is just a terrific player, on a solid contract, and he is EXACTLY the type of player Colorado could have used in that playoff series loss to Vegas last year - Lekky would have made a big difference.

Kudos to Sakic for using that deep prospect pool and picks to nab Manson and Lekky, they'll be that much more difficult to play against in the playoffs.

Sure, but I've also seen many players get traded and not adjust well to a new team or a new system and fall flat on their face. I dont expect the same output from Lehkonen in Colorado like he was doing in Montreal.

Elite elite defensive player and has been for years. His production can fall off and would still be an incredible add for Colorado.

Time will tell. I still think it was a big overpayment and Montreal did very well in the return.

To be fair to Sakic, Lekhonen is a RFA so he'll still be under team control after this year.

As a Habs fan, I love the player and am sad to see him go. But the Habs desperately need help on D and Barron is a very decent prospect who fits the Habs time-line better.

I would've rather the Habs kept Lehky but for this return, I think it's a fair move.

FWIW Yost just featured Lehkonen as among the highest upside players available, where upside is defined as ability to impact play disproportionately vs. the quality of their surroundings--so maybe Sakic was reading?
