Re: 14 man first year league
You only use Veto's if its obvious collusion and this is not. Unless I could see the complete Rosters and see no logical reason for the moves. If a manager is making 1 last kick at the can by shaking his team up, its a different story. How mathematically unlikely is he from making 8th from 10th?
is Tavares the best player in the deal? Yes. but Reaves and Clutterbuck are more waiver drop likely than McCann. They don't score anything but hits and hurt you elsewhere. You don't carry 2 players like that. You carry 1, usually a Defenseman who also blocks a ton of shots like Ferraro or Romanov. A player like Tolvanen with scoring upside, PP time and lots of shots to go with his hits is different.
McCann is actually a good tertiary player by these categories in a 14 team league and him being a FA speaks to the quality of the GM's, not the player. His weakness is +/- and that is not a category. He wins a secondary amount of FOW from LW, shoots a lot and is a top PP guy for Seattle as well as their leading scorer. Kucherov returned on January 6th. In the 15 games since, Cirelli has 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points, 78 FOW, 34 SOG. That's not "Doing nothing". That's more than Reaves or Clutterbuck have done all year almost, except for hit specialist. Stuezle is the worst performer in the deal, but hot lately, but Batherson and norris have no timetable for return yet, which means they may miss most of your playoffs.
In any case, I stand by what i said. Veto should never be used unless its obvious collusion and this doesn't meet the bar for me. its not McDavid for 3 shrubs. Its a superstar player with only C eligibility and 2 hit specialists who should not be on the same team who can't score for 3 Depth scorers with dual eligibility.
