His Ehlers for my Newhook

Hello!

League in signature. Ehlers owner is interested in my Newhook. I’d have to add a 1st round pick. I went into the season with a rebuild strategy, so I’m inclined to keep Newhook. Wanted to get your opinion. Newhook salary will help me at draft day.

Ehlers is in a much better position than Newhook. Colorado's entire second line (as I write this) are pending UFAs, so Newhook could start next season anywhere from the 4th line (where his is now) to the 2nd line. But if you're rebuilding, then I'm assuming that you're further down in the standings, giving that 1st rounder a lot of potential value (e.g., a shot at Shane Wright). If you could talk the Ehlers owner into taking a lesser pick (like a 3rd), but I think I'd pass if the price is a 1st.

Newhook + 1st is probably too rich for Ehlers for me in a cap league. In a 12 team league, a 2nd or even a 3rd round pick from you would still be a 1st round pick in the actual NHL draft. I'd counter with a 3rd round pick with Newhook and sell him that way. Your 1st round pick is basically a top 12 pick and I am assuming you aren't in first place so it's more like an actual top 10 pick.

I too think that Newhook plus that 1st round pick for Ehlers is a bit too stiff a price for my liking. If your chasing a Championship then that kind of payment might make sense but if you are rebuilding I'm hanging onto that first and Newhook.

try to get 2nd rounder back with Ehlers, otherwise i like it....i think Ehlers has still more to give..im still waiting for that point per game season but i think its coming and few to follow
