Samsonov vs Sorokin Trade rep given

Hey there

A gm asked me about Sorokin and would give me Samsonov in return and said he would upgrade my D or forwards!

Guys i‘m interested from his team would be:

Guentzel
DeBrincat
Bertuzzi
Weegar

Samsonov is 24…he‘s a talented goalie,so he should be fine in the future?
But the caps probably will not getting better the next years i guess?

So my questions are:

Would you trade Soro for Samsonov?

Which player would you ask for?

My first thought was

Sorokin+Hyman for Samsonov+ Guentzel?

Straight up, Sorokin is better. However, Guentzel or Debrincat would be a nice upgrade over Hyman. If that’s the deal, I’m taking it.

Take out Hyman from your offer and put in Bellows and see if that flies.

Samsonov is a bit of an enigma. He's been touted as the goalie of the future for the Caps, and I do still think that will be the case but like a lot of young goalies, he'll have his ups and downs and inconsistencies. Let's not forget he's still only 24 years of age and a lot of goalies dont really hit their stride until 26+ so there's still time for Samsonov. The trick is to make sure you don't lose hope on him too early.

That being said, I do still prefer Sorokin and I am sure the other GM does too. Clearly he is not willing to play the long game with Samsonov and getting frustrated.

My concern is you really only have Vasilevskiy you can bank on short term if you do this trade, as Samsonov is still inconsistent, and I dont think Varlamov (who I do think is a good goalie but struggled to stay healthy over his career) is going to get his starting gig back and I don't think Francouz is the answer either.

If you're going to do this, you have to look at your weakest forward and put him in your offer, then look at one of his stronger ones (I do like Guentzel) and go that route if you are willing to play the long game with Samsonov.

That was my first thought,Samsonov is still young!
I also think Sorokin is the better choice the next years…but as you said, Samsonov isn‘t in his prime yet!
And when we imagine probably 2-3 years from now…MAYBE the gap between Samsonov and Sorokin isn‘t as big as it is between Guentzel and probably Hyman!

Who would you choose from my roster to offer?
Gurianov?

Who do you consider your weakest forward? I haven't looked too hard at the numbers for your setup, but one has to wonder if it's not Seguin. Maybe I am wrong.

I actually think Varlamov & Francouz will be pretty useful for you in net, so I'd make the move. However, if he wants both Isles goalies, you could offer that and see what that shakes loose.

Maybe you could get say, Guentzel & Weegar for your worst F & D?

Gurianov or Zadina would be the worst players right now.but they are still young
So probably Seguin is thd worst!

No,he just wants Sorokin!
My worst D would be Martinez/Petry or Gio…i doubt he will accept that
My other D-men are pretty young and i don‘t want to give them away!

if you can get Guenzel for Hyman or one of Zadina/Gurianov im doing this deal....yes atm Sorokin appears to be better but he did not even cross the pond till he was 25 i believe, Samsonv already has games in NHL and one more year to even hit 25...goalies are so unpredictable that this could easily flip on who is better...i dont think any of those 3 forwards will ever even come close to Guentzel.
