I've always been on the side of "if you have a work shortage, it's because you haven't enticed people enough".
The shortages across the fast food industry in the states last yr was funny because people were upset but at a certain point the work doesn't equal the pay so you gotta tip the scales again. If I was a teenager and worked at McDs (I did when I was in highschool) I would have quit during COVID height. I already got yelled at enough without mask mandates, why would I want to work for minimum wage to get yelled at? I also didn't have anywhere to go to use the money I would have made.
Goes across all industries to me. If it's not worth the pay, then the conditions and peripheral stuff (vacation, work conditions, benefits, location) better be good otherwise people won't work the job.
