there is shortage of workers in every sector so I would not say you can easily replace truckers cause you can’t find anybody to work atm….

at the same time…half of these protesters that were not vaccinated will now go and get a shot…they did this for attention more than anything imo…

The vaccine has been available for over a year now. If someone doesn't have a shot yet, I doubt there's much that's going to convince them to at this point.

Shortage does not mean they aren't easily replaceable. Just means the industry sucks. The job sucks. Brokers suck. It's unhealthy. Sure some people like it.
There's a lot of people qualified to drive truck but aren't. Hell any firefighter worth their weight will have a DZ licence. I have mine.
Few weeks you can get your DZ too!

Of course it doesn't mean they aren't easily replaceable, but what it does mean is you'll need to make the incentives sweeter to find someone willing to do it. Are you going to pay them more? Give them additional holidays? What additional benefit are you going to give them to draw them in. All of the options are additional costs to the company. Costs that get passed on to you & I and the rest of society.

I've always been on the side of "if you have a work shortage, it's because you haven't enticed people enough".

The shortages across the fast food industry in the states last yr was funny because people were upset but at a certain point the work doesn't equal the pay so you gotta tip the scales again. If I was a teenager and worked at McDs (I did when I was in highschool) I would have quit during COVID height. I already got yelled at enough without mask mandates, why would I want to work for minimum wage to get yelled at? I also didn't have anywhere to go to use the money I would have made.

Goes across all industries to me. If it's not worth the pay, then the conditions and peripheral stuff (vacation, work conditions, benefits, location) better be good otherwise people won't work the job.

Between that and about 6 employees leaving work (or taking the full day off) to go support this also has caused a bit of a snowball effect in missing timelines. If COVID spreads through these events it'll only make the missing employees situation worse lol.

it also did not prevent them from feeding thier families, if it does it is game change. I personally know few people who are not vaccinated who booked shots now due to restrictions of different kinds..

I don't think you need a permit to protest, but there's a difference between a demonstration and a protest.

A demonstration allows the City to plan ahead to help with policing a safe protest. Also allows the city to plan a low impact on surrounding facilities and help lower the impact on businesses and emergency issues in the area. It's typically a nice gesture towards the city and surrounding businesses if you plan on a peaceful protest. It's not new.

The Israel and Palestinian demonstrations in Toronto in May were "demonstrations" technically because of that permit. Same with a lot of the BLM stuff in Canada. I think the Anti-Trudeau thing in 2017 was technically a demonstration. It's a very common thing to have this permit.

I think some trucks are rolling through my work area later today and police have stated they will be present to ensure things go smoothly.

I've never filled out one of those forms. But I'm sure it states times, areas, and amount of people you plan on being there is also helpful which I wouldn't think is being told. I get the numbers thing and maybe the dates (because it's too open ended right now) but I'm sure the demonstration permit would have info down in a more formal planned way that helps police do things. Or even the surrounding businesses.

Whatever, it's a learning opportunity for all of us that didn't know about the permit lol.

Since they are driving across several provinces, idk the feasibility of a single permit. Maybe for largely populated spots.
