Default Barrie ... WTF & What to do

What to do with this guy?

It's so hard holding a 91% rostered guy that is unable to produce. I look at the FA's and I see Karlsson outperforming and although it's more a short sample but Dobson is producing at a steady pace.

Barrie's exposure is just SO good that it's hard to give up on, just as I did with Palat, I hung on and now he's firing again ... but will that time come for Barrie?

He's not an easy one to package out in a 2:1 for a D upgrade.

What's the play here in everyones opinion with Barrie?

Just be patient and hold him.

He led the entire league in points at his position last year, and his average point production over his career and last 3 years is insane.

He's getting similar opportunity and the same amount of PP% time as last year, but has been a bit unlucky and his IPP at evens and on PP are a bit low. All it takes are a couple multi-point games and he's back on track, and that is very easy for him to do given his situation. Remember, we aren't even halfway through the season.

PS. All this nonsense about Bouchard is overhyped. He's more well-rounded than Barrie and will be a top D for years, but he is not a threat for Barrie's PP1 spot (which you can clearly see, since Barrie is at the exact same PP% this year as last year). Worst case, maybe knock off a few points from expectations for Barrie since he's lost 1min of ES time due to the emergence of guys like Bouchard. When people hype Bouchard and shit on Barrie, let's not forget Barrie led the entire league last year in points from a D man, and has among the best average point production over the last 5 years of all D in the league.

Bump, and buy low on injured Barrie?

However there is no real info about his injury. It feels it's not something major, so he should be back soon.
But when he returns, will he retake his PP1 spot ?

Would you offer Pionk or Krug for him in 1year, no keepers?

You mean you value Krug or Poink more than Barrie?

In the end, I traded my Hall for Barrie yesterday, because Barrie was DTD. Now he is IR

BTW, I am so dissapointed about this situation that I started a "conspiracy" thread about Edmonton possibly selling Barrie

I dropped Barrie in a shallow league earlier this week. And I feel good about it.

I would be looking to buy very low on Barrie from frustrated owners. OR better yet pick him up off the waiver and stash him on IR. He might not turn things around, but if he does it would be a home run.

He is still the best PP quarterback in Edmonton and one of the best int the league.

I'm stuck with him. Drafted him in Round 4. Hoped for better. After the break, I think (hope) Tippett will give him another chance on PP1. If that's the case, he's still in the juiciest D position in the league, right?

Have you watched the Oilers play many games in the past? This comment tells me that the answer is no. Bouchard is significantly better than Barrie in all parts of the game. Barrie is a 3rd pairing, PP2 dman.

You have to hold given that he led all D-men in points last year. Bouchard may be superior but because Barrie really can't do anything else other than be the PP1 guy, they need to use him as such. Also using veterans is the crutch of many a coach in the hot seat.

He may start on PP2, as he has not played in a long stretch and hasn't practiced with the team all that much, but he is still their best PP quarterback and likely gets the 1st PP back sooner rather than later. Bouchard is going to be a superstar, and he will take PP1 for good one day, I just seriously doubt that the time is now. Oilers would be shooting themselves in the foot if they buried Barrie with 15 minutes a night and used him on their non existent PP2.

But that is just my best guess. Coaches can do strange things. Bouchard has been ok on the PP but I don't think he is anywhere near as dynamic as Barrie yet. Good shot. Lots of little mistakes.

Edmonton has 2 goals on the PP in the last 12 games. Most of those games are with Bouchard on the top unit....

Could be in the oilers best interest to run 2 actual PP units, maybe split up the twin towers, help keep the big boys a little fresher for the whole game, but I doubt that happens either.

Hmmm. Barrie on PP1 right off the bat. Edmonton scores on first PP of game. Barrie moving the puck fantastically and his quick wrister develops into a goal.

Those writing Barrie's obituary may be a little premature.....
