Default NHL shuts down cross border travel

The NHL suspends cross-border travel until after the Christmas break.

Olympic announcement coming in the next few days.

Multiple league sources tell me it's "highly unlikely" NHL players will go now that the season has been materially impacted by COVID.

    Haha. Perfect.

If only we could get a couple more Ramblings that stress the importance of vaccines, maybe this wouldn't have happened.

Detroit isn't scheduled to play in Canada until Feb. 26, so this shouldn't impact Bertuzzi's value.

John Shannon made a good point, that the decision on the Olympics was not going to be decided by the players, but more likely by their families. I know I wouldn't want to see someone I cared about head to China with huge uncertainty over whether they would get stuck there.

It's just hockey. There will be lots more of it in my life time.

Pro sports will be done next week... it's hilarious how they're risking everyone's lives squeezing out the revenue out of these last few games...

The NFL has adjusted their protocols to testing only symptomatic players.

This is good and bad...As Yzerman pointed out, he had Larkin play with a legitimate flu for days and that was ok'd by the league, but players with no symptoms of COVID were held out. I get this plan. If someone is asymptomic, and your league is highly vaccinated, then why hold them out? I get it. However...the NFL (and every league who has this if they choose in the future) should fear ppl hiding symptoms. Especially with playoffs coming up and the final weeks of the regular season... players can 100% hide symptoms, and teams can ignore them if they are small enough.

With the idea that vaccines are to help with symptoms, it makes a ton of sense to me on paper that if you're asymptomatic, should you be held out if everyone is vaccinated? However, the human side of it can make this really dicey. Should be interesting what happens with the NFL.

Better to err on the side of caution kinda thing. Family always first.

In general, I agree with this. I'll leave it at that. I suspect I am on the same page here. I largely don't discuss covid or vaccines any more with people as it turns into a total waste of time.

Looking forward to getting my booster in a couple weeks and hoping everyone stays happy and healthy this Christmas.

I fail to see the reason why the big separation of asymptomatic and symptomatic players. Both transmit the virus. Nothing else really matters.

It's a joke all these people are vaccinated. Yzerman had the best take on this let them play. Also Westjet's CEO had a great take on it as well.

"he WestJet Group today is expressing its strong opposition to the travel advisory issued by the Government of Canada. The targeted advice outlined today is not based on science and data and significantly undermines aviation's proven safety record in response to COVID-19. These measures are a setback in Canada's progress and its successful transition from relying on blanket advisories and policies."

We should be in the Endemic stage not reverting back at this point.
