Impossible to continue calling the NHL a "major" professional sports league. More likely the league continues to lose ground on every other league and fall further down rankings then ever catches the "Big 3" and regains status worthy of calling it a "Big 4" ever again.

They said it was due to human error and the debt will be paid off this morning.

The debt is from last yr, who knows what their current rent pay situation is. If they are up to it, I can maybe see the 1.3m getting lost in the team sale maybe? I dunno. The league supporting the team is the bigger joke.

Then the situation with the team rumoured to be trying to move to Houston coupled with this just screams that they are the next team to move. And Houston makes so much sense, and Bettman would enjoy the team being in the southern part of the USA.

I was under the impression that it should have died when Arizona couldn't pay their players on time. Matthews would want high signing bonus, a lot up front type of deal and Arizona would struggle with paying out a $11mill bonus on July 1st.

Exactly this.

Cities, corporations, etc. have departments dedicated to chase unpaid bills.
Before it went public, it's guaranteed that Glendale has called the Coyotes multiple times about unpaid taxes and rent.
That the Coyotes try to cover this up with a "human error" is just adding a layer of pathetic to this whole situation in Arizona...

Unsurprisingly, turns out that after stating they had paid their bills in full this morning, the Coyotes had in fact not paid their bills in full.

They paid some of the bills I do believe (up-to-date on 2020-21 season and 2021-22 game day expenses, whatever that means), but haven't paid their rent for the Glendale Arena

But we have a team who has no arena next season, and possibly no arena Dec20th (with a game in Arizona on Dec23)...and how a team has lost $130mill over 10yrs or something and $33mill last yr....I don't know how this works out for the team. The rest of the NHL should be pissed at Arizona because it's costing the league a lot of money to force it to work.

I do get the reasoning behind trying Arizona, but they pulled the plug on Atlanta real quick, and let Arizona keep going. I'm likely naïve over the situation, but they really want Arizona there. And like...a team that wins will likely do well anywhere (TBL/FL had terrible attendance until they were good) but Arizona can't do well it seems. If they get Wright then Bedard...oh god ppl will scream rigged but the team needs a player like that (Crosby/Pitts level)
