Crashing and Burning after 5 Week Win Streak

Hello all,

I started out the season with five straight wins, and was in first until last week with the team in Sig below; I have now lost 3 weeks straight and am down this week.

From draft, my weakest position has been goaltending (I had actually started out owning Murray and "upgraded" to Ullmark). Second biggest problem has been a constant parade of Band-Aid boys. I have had up to 7 players injured, and with only 2 IR and 2IR+ spots, it's been tough.

I have tried to get goaltending upgrades (trying to get Talbot or even Grubauer for the consistent starts), but everyone hoards goalies in this league and I'd likely have to offer a 5th round pick or higher to get a Talbot....I have tried to stream backup goalies, but we only have 72 FA picks ups and I've already burned through 31 (so at a rate higher than my preferred 3/week max).

Do I just keep riding the downtrend for now and wait to get guys healthy again, or are there any major gaps I can fix. I think my D-core is very strong and my forward group is alright, though not having Kuch hurts a lot. I still think goaltending is the biggest concern. One thought is to drop Husso, grab Rask and then bet on a Rask/Ullmark tandem, but we don't have an NA spot and so I would be wasting a roster spot until he gets a different status.

yeah Bjorkstrand was recently dropped by someone.

Im thinking of grabbing him and dropping Granlund or Rakell, but he wouldn’t have helped me to date given how cold he’s been.

I feel like having Hellebuyck and both goalies for EDM/BOS would be really good. It might be tough to ride it out for a bit but come January you could be laughing if you go the route of dropping Husso for Rask.

In general I think everyone is dealing with a lot of injuries, in one of my leagues I have Kuch, MacKinnon and Barkov who have all been out. Then just last week I lost Shesterkin, Binnington and Pionk. Like my IR spots have been filled for most of the season so far.

I don't know if you listen to the Keeping Karlsson podcast but last week they spent the entire two hours touring the league discussing injuries.

Bjorkstrand should be picked up. Had a bit of a cold spell but broke out of that last night.
Grab Rask before someone else does. Taking a roster spot and not playing is better than playing a Husso.
I totally concur with skinnypeat88 about injuries this year. Add in covid and all fantasy teams are dealing with players being out of the lineup.

I also like dropping Husso for Rask, once you don't have a chance in goalie cats for the week. Could you send Husso to the Binnington owner for a different backup, giving him the handcuff? Or in a package deal?

Perhaps could have done so before Husso went down with a groin injury last game.....what a bloody season.

I'm hearing loud and clear about Bjorkstand as well - I assume Copp would be the drop then?

If Husso's got a groin problem, drop him for Bjorkstrand, and keep Copp to help skater cats this week. Copp isn't bad at all, honestly.
