Right? I mean, teams have only had 15 years to figure it out! Haha.
Serious question: Watching Washington’s PP for years, their strategy is obvious and rarely changes. Puck from the point to the right, draw 4 defenders in, find Ovechkin WIDE OPEN in the left circle…. Right? Why not play a compressed 3 v 4 over on the right side, and leave a defender to have NO responsibility except #8 ? Make Tom Wilson or Daniel Sprong beat you, instead of Ovi.
It’s weird that it’s never been tried (to my knowledge).

And yet….. 745 goals say they’ve learned nothing.
He's the best goal-scorer ever. He knows how to read the play and get open. It also helps that he shares the ice with other great players on the power play.
I remember years ago the same thing would be said about Brett Hull. He just knew how to get open.

teams did try the shadow ovie strategy but then ovie would just glide all the way to the other side of the ice and the other 4 guys carlson backstrom and some combination of oshie shattenkirk kuznetsov johansson were competent enough to make you pay
