Getting Berrios locked up early in Free Agency is really key.
Makes them players for other big names in the market. For the first time in decades, Toronto is a destination option for big name FA's.

Right-hander José Berríos and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a seven-year, $131 million contract extension, sources confirm to ESPN. The deal includes an opt-out clause after the fifth season and limited no-trade protection as well. @deplaymaker was on top of it.

Yep I'm on board with the deal and it makes me like that trade even more.
Lots more work to do.
I like that deal a lot as well.

Jays played this one well. Get them in hand before they hit the free agent market show them Toronto, Canada is a good place to be. Then sign long term. Hopefully they can replicate this move with Ray and Semien.
It's odd because Berrios once said he wants to hit Free Agency to set a pay precedent for arms...Don't know why he would sign this, unless he was scared of the lockout, or he loved Canada that much...I don't get his side of this at all from what he said in the past. Maybe it was a way to get out of Minnesota lol. Hey he's a Jay now, and he'll be a Jay for a long time. I like that.
Manoah, Berrios, Ryu, Stripling, and maybe Pearson if his hernia surgery fixed him. So even if they swing and miss on SPs, they at least have a 200IP horse locked up.
