Atlanta didn't want to give him the 6th yr of a deal. So looks like Freeman is likely to get 6yrs from the Yankees or the Dodgers.

Is this a smart move or a dumb move by Atlanta?

Dumb move. Acuna and Albies are on incredible deals for 5+ years. Even Ozuna is locked in for a few more. Their window is MASSIVE. Olson has arb rights next year and then is a UFA.

you were supposed to tell me that this was the right move. Haha.

I can’t believe the braves would make this move before Freeman was officially signed.

To me, baseball prospects typically dont turn into much. Think about all the guys that the Jays have traded off and only Syndergaard was really anything. We don't know what the offer for freeman was, but if it was really just the fact the Braves didn't offer a 6th yr....I don't get why you wouldn't do that.

Olson for now tho, he could instantly replace Freeman's production 1 for 1. And he's younger. I think it's a good replacement for freeman. But the issue is you replaced freeman lol.

If you use 144m/6yr as the extension amount (accounting for 2 years of arb) Olson signed for 24m/yr. Freeman was asking for 30m over the same time period. So ATL is "saving" 36m between the two and gave up the prospects.

Jake Lamb to Dodgers (1yr, 1.5m). Doesn't mean anything on their intentions for Freeman.

Interesting. Well this makes me feel better about the trade and losing Freeman... the risk of losing him in a couple years is no longer a concern.

Paraphrasing Jerry Seinfeld "What's the Deal with bigger bases?"

I get the point of the other rule change suggestions (pitch clock - yes please! no defensive shift -OK)
but I keep seeing bigger bases as this big rule idea. Is it just to reduce injuries on slides/close plays (more room for runner and defender to touch?) or is there some giant concept I'm missing here?

They also reach the base faster. So INF grounders might shift to hits instead of outs.

Rizzo to the NYY. One less Freeman location. Will we see a Voit trade now?

2 Freeman suitors went elsewhere in upgrading their INF with the Jays going with Chapman and the NYY getting Rizzo. I'd assuming Freeman is going to the Dodgers.

If they do make the bases bigger... is it just adding the safety bag at first like they have in softball?

Or is it legit adding width and length to the bag?

And yes, the runner will get to the bag quicker... but will the first baseman also be a little bit closer to the rest of his infielders and potentially receive the ball a little bit quicker as well?
