I accepted, he says he hates superstars and prefers under the radar guys like Tanev and Ekblad. He knows what he's doing and is a very good manager as he usually wins or is in the tops of the league every year and has traded superstars in the past. I was just kind of in shock at first that McDavid was even on the table.

That is a trade that you… make! Smash the accept button.
- I said... "God damn this tablet is heavy!"
Is the trade automatically put through? If I was in that league I'd be baffled and at least inquire about collusion. That's an absolutely awful trade for him and a masterpiece for you.

Good on you for landing McD at that price... but I definitely think the OGM knows what he's doing and got a solid haul in a 1-year multi-cat. He might not have 'maximized' his return on moving McD... but he got some category difference makers.
If his team can contend in the scoring cats (I didn't actually look at his squad) without McD, he just added a BLK machine (Martinez), a HIT machine (Tanev), and upgraded his potential +/- significantly (in with 2 FLA players and 1 TB + 1 VGK player - out with LA/CBJ/ANAx2 guys.
If you can replace/stream the filler you got to complement McD's scoring this is a great trade for you.

I can absolutely understand what the other GM is thinking there.
First, it's a one year league, so no keeper implications. McDavid is great, but he gets some very good pieces back, and likely solidifies some categories where he can stockpile a lead, and then pivot later.
I've won a few leagues in various sports where I've made deals where people told me I got completely ripped off - one almost got vetoed. I've been the recipient of the "let's track this deal to see how many points these guys score to see how awful this deal was" treatment - I won that deal. I don't care what others think if I'm happy with the return.

Also your eggs are all in one basket with McDavid. If he gets hurt your screwed. Whereas spreading your points across multiple players an injury to one player stings less.
