Default Waiting List - Last Four Out- Team Canada Olympic team.

Priority list of candidates for waiting list for Team Canada. This list becomes relevant in case if injury or COVID. Top of this list will be first to be recalled to Team Canada.

Here is my take. One of these may play themselves onto the team. If any readers have a strong feeling that one or more of these are already near locks, be happy to hear your rationale.

    Forwards:
    1. Bergeron
    2. Scheifele
    3. Hurberdeau
    4. O`Rielly
    5. Hall
    6. Barzal
    7. Garland
    8. Mangiapane
    9. Giroux
    10. Suzuki

    3rd Goalie (assuming Price-Binnington one-two locks)
    1. Blackwood
    2. Fleury

Defense (assuming locks are Pietrangelo, Makar, Nurse, Hamilton, Reilly, Chabot).
    1. Barrie
    2. Pelech
    3. Ellis
    4. Doughty
    5. Drysdale

Curious who your forwards are that leave Bergeron and Hubs off the roster (I have both as locks in the top 9).

I agree. I think Bergeron is a lock for the roster.

Forwards: Panarin, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Stamkos, Tuch, Rust, Marchessault, Pavelski, Miller, Bertuzzi, Stone, Kakko, Brown, Stankoven, Kovalenko
Defence: Hedman, Fox, Matheson, Thrun, Jiricek
Goalies: Kochetkov, Talbot, Vasilevskiy, Campbell, Schmid

I think neither of those goalies should be anywhere near the roster.

Bergeron would be a F lock for me too right now.

On D - I think Doughty would be a lock too.

Ya, I can't see a Canadian roster without Doughty on it.

Bergeron is absolutely a lock and I cant see many scenarios where Huberdeau isn't either.

On the other hand, there is less than zero chance that Tyson Barrie is making the Canadian Olympic team.

Fat chance in Hell that Bergeron and Huberdeau are not on Team Canada.

Also I can't see how you have Garland ahead of Giroux or Suzuki.

For goalies. Price is the only lock.
Binnington needs too out perform Fluery, Hart and Kuemper. Plus also beat Jarry, Allen, Driedger and Murray.

Dmen like our fwds, we have a good selection to pick from. I don't see Barrie as the #1 choice for next in line. Doughty, Ekblad and Ellis are the top 3 for me if we go with your 6 selected. Then Barrie is competing with D Toews, Letang, Pulock, Parayko, and Muzzin.

Bergeron and Huberdeau are pretty close to locks in my book.

Doughy I have on the team in fully healthy (he is scheduled back around end of December, not sure when rosters are due).

Goalies are totally up in the air. I really hope Price gets back to the Habs and right into the groove, not just for his sake but for Team Canada. Unfortunately I cannot call him a lock. Binnington is a long way from a lock IMO. Before the season Fleury was trending to on the team, now not so much. In short, I do not think there is a goalie "lock"

Garland as noted is American. I do not see a world where Mangiapane makes Team Canada despite his solid play so far.

    An

Really good feed back. My comments on comments received so far:

    1. Surprised at level of love for Bergeron. He is pretty old (36) hence his skating speed has diminished. So I am surprised that many, if not most, consider him a lock. I would opt for younger faster versions of Bergeron (i.e elite defensive forward that still has offensive punch) such as Cirelli or Couturier.
    2. Mangiapane was MVP of Canada's WHC gold medal team last year. Hockey Canada will remember that. If he keeps up on a 40 goal pace, I can see him being considered.
    3. I think my subject title should be renamed Last Four in, as opposed to Last Four out. When I assembled the top nine forwards list, I barely got nine. After that exercise, I agree Huberdeau should be a lock.
    5. My bad of Garland. Was not aware he is American.

I do think Couturier should make it, as he's elite defensively and in the faceoff circle, and he should beat out Giroux. They only have so many spots for those types of guys. Who do you have as the set roster?

The Marchand-Crosby-Bergeron line is insane. He's a lock just based off of you know what you get. And at a minimum if it doesn't gel, he's a great 4th line Center and PKer.

I think a lot of people forget that it's not about building the team with the highest ranked players, but finding the best players for roles and the players roster flexibility. You gotta bring guys who play the PK, take faceoffs, can be shutdown guys.

Bergeron/Marchand already play together, so you know they can gel speed wise. Crosby's speed matches them. That's an easy line you pretty much can pencil in. But if it doesn't work out...Bergeron and Marchand can be used as a shutdown line, and shift like ROR with them too. Your primary offense will likely come from Hube/McDavid/Mackinnon.
