E. Kane for Picks

Hello brilliant and talented Dobber community,

I have been offered E. Kane and a 12th round pick for my 8th round pick next year, league in signature. Because he's suspended he can't go on the IR so I'm burning a roster spot until December and that's only assuming he plays after that.

In my league with SOG, PIMs and Hits he's a top 5 player. Is this worth the risk? Worst case scenario I basically burn a roster spot for the whole season.

I am very interested to see this whole process play out. If SJ is in the playoffs/just outside, I dont see how they wont settle their differences and have him play. If they need the wins, people will deal with it.

It is a gamble, high risk vs high reward. No IR is rough though.

You'll have to juggle and also need to consider who you'd be dropping to fit Kane on your roster, but I'd be interested in exploring that in your league set up.

While I do agree that his path to playing this year is likely a good deal more complicated than just serving his 21 game suspension, if/when he does end up returning he's a beast in your format (as you've noted). And in fact, whether he plays this year or not, he may well slip in as one of your 3 keepers next season based on your roster (I'm guessing that now tends to be Ovi, Kane and Couturier in some order?) and his trade value in your league should only increase as the prospect of him playing again draws closer--both later this season as his 21 game suspension ticks away and pre-trade deadline, and at worst next preseason when (barring other stupidity on his part) his return should be imminent and all but guaranteed.

I personally don't think an 8th for 12th swap is too steep of a price to pay for that potential. And you may even be able to whittle that down a bit too.

An 8th for a 12th is really a nothing price.
That is an 11th (121) for 14th (196) swap. Again very cheap.
The questions become:
1. Can you manage your roster a man down
2. Will Kane play this year?

He may have some residual keeper value but really its the fact he's a beast in your format. I like your team and think in a deep league you can probably run a main short until Kane returns.
Call me crazy but I think Kane plays 40+ games this season which would include fantasy playoffs. In a deep head-to-head league I would be very tempted to do the deal and drop either of McNabb or Hakanpaa and run 3 D-men until Kane's return.

Ya I kept Ovie, P. Kane and Shesterkin this season. Right now Verhaege is probably my droppable guy (start 4 D) but I had the same thought about if he returns being able to sell him depending on where my team is at. I imagine fetching a 1st rounder wouldn't be too farfetched and talk about a ROI.

I guess I'm just trying to get a sense from the community about what the opinions are on him playing. Maybe I should start a poll...

Thanks! Ya those two players are likely the most droppable on my roster, although if I do that I'm essentially burning two roster spots in one move because I have Kane suspended and a vacant D slot.
