    Default Brady Tkachuk Contract Status

Sounds like he rejected the latest offer. Ottawa set on 7/8 year deal vs he wants a bridge deal. Wonder how long the standoff continues

The Ottawa Senators and forward Brady Tkachuk continue to negotiate a new contract and word is Tkachuk has rejected a seven and eight year deal and is holding out for a bridge deal.

Well, of course Ottawa wants a year deal, so they can backload the deal and then trade him a few years in.

Pretty sure the dad has told both Matthew and Brady to take Bridge deals and Matthew took a 21mill/3yr deal. So I wouldn't be surprised if Brady is wanting a 3yr, 24mill deal.

Man I feel for Sens fans with freaking cheapo/weirdo Melnyk as owner. Beautiful team being built and inability to do things like signing bonuses hampers things.

Seems like an inability to be a reasonable human being is Melnyk’s main issue. Maybe Pierre is telling them Brady doesn’t pass the eye test?

Nah Pierre is more likely to be concerned about his breath. Just ask Phil Kessel 😄😄

Why is this the Sens inability to be reasonable and not on the players end as well? Takes two to tangle and who can blame the Sens for wanting to lock him up long term?

Seems pretty simple, meet in the middle.

It's mostly because the evidence that points to Melnyk being reasonable is sparse. They love having cap hit exceed cash outlay. Also, this is a team whose charitable foundation cut ties with the team.

That's fine, but again, why is this all on the team when all they're trying to do is lock up their key asset long term. He wants short term, they want long term. Sounds like Kaprizov and his negotiations. It's not like the Tkachuks aren't know to be reasonable in their negotiations. Matthew held out too if I remember correctly and you know full well it's the entire Tkachuk camp doing the negotiations here, not just Brady.

Meet in the middle folks or no one wins. Negotiating 101. Both are just trying to do what's in their own best interests so I'm not pointing the finger at one, I'm shaking my head at both.

I don't think Ottawa is being cheap, I think it's more Tkachuk family wanting bridge deals as young players. The team and player just have different paths in their mind and neither are flexing on it.

8yrs x 8mill for a guy who hasn't hit a 60pt/82gp pace yet is pretty good. He can explode and he's locked in for yrs at a good value, or he can level off as he's been a 50-55pt guy and then he's overpaid.

He brings a lot more than just points, but I get both sides on this. I feel like a Bridge deal is actually good for both sides, and if he explodes...ok Ottawa finally needs to pay someone (which they are trying to avoid) but I rather pay him in 2yrs, then deal with 5yrs of possible overpay.

Love your takes man, but I think you’re giving Melnyk too much credit.

Well I think they see the 8yrx8m as a money saving tactic down the line and that's why they aren't budging on an 8yr deal. They have opened up the longer term deals with this roster with Chabot, Batherson and White.

I still think he puts money ahead of the team, because I don't get why you wouldn't do a bridge deal on Tkachuk and just pay him if he explodes since they have 0 deals that stop them from doing this. But Mel sees it as "we know he'll explode so why would I spend money down the line on him".

But I could still be giving him too much credit lol.

At some point the Sens have to trust that giving him a bridge deal means he’s part of this fast-growing success story, and as they grow and succeed eventually he’ll WANT to sign a reasonable long term deal (despite the train wreck that is Melnyk’(.
