I like the EP and Lundqvist side of the equation. Like you said maybe in a couple of years EP out produces Scheifle.
In a cap league, trade
1. Pettersson + Nils Lundqvist for Scheifele
or
2. Point + Nils Lundqvist for Scheifele
Scheifele has $6.125 for next 3 years
Pettersson has ??? for next ??? years
Point is $6.75 this year but goes up to $9.5 next year.
Nils is cheap for the next 3 years and I have high expectations of him, Fox being a barrier notwithstanding.
Scheifele is the oldest of the 3 but at 28 he still has at least 3 or 4 years of top performance. In 3 to 5 years, though ... EP might be way ahead of Scheifele and the latter would not be a bargain anymore.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

The big problem here is not knowing what EP will sign for or for how long. That said, I have my doubts that the Nucks throw the kind of money the Bolts did at Point. BUT, that's just a guess. The better value contract is critical here and at this point we just don't know. Adding Lundvist is very nice, I too have high expectations for him and we'll see whether Fox is in the way or not, I don't consider it a given beyond this coming season. So, all I can say is taking EP and Nils is the way I would go with the understanding that EP's contract is rolling the dice a bit. Depends on your appetite for risk.

Personally, I think Brayden Point is a better and more secure NHL player than Pettersson.
And you do get the one year (this year) at $6.75m... that's great.
I might be seeing the wrong games, but Pettersson hasn't been mind-blowing for talent upside... for me.
Scheifele for 3yrs at $6.125m is the best bang-for-buck value here.
(Way better than Point at $9.5m... way better than Pettersson, at, say $8.8m or $9.0m... seeing Kaprizov - a wing - get $9m... makes Pettersson seem like he has right to command same. It actually wouldn't surprise me to see him get exactly the same deal as Kaprizov: 5x$9m.)
1. If a team is primed to compete and needs production per dollar: Scheifele for 3yrs is my pick. He's so steady.
2. If a team is nowhere near competing and is waiting on growth: Point+Lundqvist. (I think Nils is roadblocked by Fox though... and eventually D-men get overpaid for most cap leagues, so I don't love Nils long-term when he gets $6m+ after his ELC.)
I don't want Pettersson, personally, not at $9m.
Thanks all for your thoughts.
I'm the one that would be getting Scheifele in this deal. I hate that I don't know what EP's next contract will be like. If he signs for $9m then I agree with Pengwin but if he signs for $7.5 for 3 years, that would be different.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
i would not trade point + Nils or EP + Nils for schefiele...
im very high on Lundkvist and i think it would be a mistake to add him to a deal just for a marginal improvement, if any, at C.

well we dont even know yet what EP will get....point and schefiele are about even this year....so doing this move for 22-23 league without having a look at Lundkvist first is not a good idea imo
its very possible that you would regret this move before it even effects your cap in any way...im sure you can drop some plug D that makes 3-4 mil and insert lundkvist in that spot year from now and your problem be solved....dont think ahead with your cap...treat it year by year.

Agree with most. Scheifele is the one of the best bang for your buck deals in NHL. Nils will be blocked by Fox and I don’t see Rangers going with 2D on 1PP line.
Well, the other GM changed his mind about Pettersson.
Now he just wants Point + a draft pick for Scheifele.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
I traded Point for Scheifele and swapped 1st round picks. I get this year's 16th OA and I give up my 1st next year, which is very likely going to be bottom 3 as I have one of the top teams.
