Good deal for this coming year. COVID definitely helped the Capitals keep the salary cap low on this one.

Good deal for the Caps. Think Samsonov could've made more but betting on himself for a better deal next year.

Washington gets both goalies for around $2.7M. That's a pretty good deal for a team with big commitments elsewhere in the lineup.

Owner of samsonov in a cap league and actually wanted him to sign a 3 year deal for a bit more money. Not too much more but that would have secured him a role. His role is still very iffy now

Both goalies will have something to prove this year - that they deserve to be the 1A going forward.

Like many, I think Samsonov still has elite potential, and $ 2M to retain him for a tryout year is a great contract for Washington

No, he's shown once that he learned from past mistakes. GM's are still taking him to the cleaners, and some players as well. He's still a guy you bet against every time.

Makes sense for a guy with meh performance in the NHL so far and then couldn't manage to stay off the covid list.
