I like the trade. Reaves serves a purpose but can actually play as well. He's not as good of a hockey player as Wilson, but hes as good as a goon as Wilson. Now we'll see if Wilson can walk the walk or if he pusses out (my money is on pusses out).

I think of the lumbering wildebeests that Montreal has on their blueline, Flames trading for Zadaorov, and the Canucks signing Poolman as recent examples. Some of one and a little of the other. This is, after all, a copy cat league. GMs see how far a heavy defense took Montreal and think that's the way to go. It isn't. I agree some is down to the officiating and DOPS in the case of Tom Wilson vs NYR.

Reaves knows his role, plays it very well and is not a distraction on or off the ice. He can keep Wilson occupied and keep the shenanigans to a minimum. Best case, Wilson accepts a fight from a fourth liner, worst case, he keeps relatively in check.
