Dmen are almost as far out as goalies. If they can find the right offensive player, go for it. They do have some nice pieces in the system already that are developing. It doesn't matter who they draft at 6, they wont be immediate help to the team.

Lets be honest, Detroit doesn't have much in the pipeline for young goalies coming through.

Take the goalie, hope he's just like Vas and you found your Bishop.

Yzerman drafted Vas in the summer of 2012, Bishop was then acquired via trade April 2013 (trade deadline). I know it's a bit backwards, but I don't think Yzerman cares about getting an NHL starter and drafting a possible star goalie close to each other.

I have to think the Canes are going to be looking for a big move in goal. Grubauer or a trade?

I think they should go after a big goalie. But I don't know why you wouldn't re-sign Nedel and sign Andersen or something like that.

To be fair, I didnt see Nedeljkovic asking for $3.5M from Carolina either.

Apparently Carolina offered Ned a 1.5mill/1yr deal. Why are they hoarding cap space? They have like 29mill in space and they were going to nickel and dime Ned?

I know they got Svech to deal with, and maybe push to bring back Hamilton. But $29mill is a lot. Maybe they have an internal cap for a yr or two that's below the 81.5mill. Maybe the contracts to the coaching staff were a lot more than the management team was hoping for and are finding ways to save a mill here and there.

Maybe Canes push in all their chips on Holtby? One can dream. I really do not understand this move, big mistake imo.

I think many of the wallstedt to Detroit mock drafts are based on Stevie y taking vasilevskiy on the first round a few years ago. I don't think the situations are the same at all. Let's remember that the lightning had two first round picks that year. Teams that took goalies in the first round back then (pre knight-askarov-wallstedt) typically had more than one first rounder so they could take a chance on drafting a goalie so high. The lightning had taken tony DeAngelo a few picks earlier.
Another reason people might be making the connection is since it seems detroit has a void in net throughout their pipeline. I'll answer to that that tampa had absolutely no void in net in their system when vasilevskiy was drafted (Ben bishop). So maybe he was just the best player available in yzerman's mind, nothing to do with position. Also, Detroit has a void virtually everywhere in their system (I still doing think they're as deep as people are saying they are, and apparently yzerman himself feels they aren't as close as originally believed). Goalie is in some ways the easiest position to fill, as there are 32 teams and more good goalies than that (as evidenced by how easily they just got nedeljkovic!). And they have a hobey Baker nominee in their system, Keith petruzzelli , so not like they don't have anything there on the way.
I think Detroit's gonna take mason McTavish. They need center help, beniers won't be there at their pick, and yzerman has shown in the past that he isn't afraid to jump on the possible draft riser early. McTavish is a very Stevie y kind of player.

    GET WELL SOON, DOBBER.

Let me get this right! So Carolina drafts Nedeljkovic in a 2d round, spent years developing him, finally...the guy is ready for a big dance...and doing just fine with .932 SV% and .920 in playoffs...”Why don’t we trade him for a 3d rounder because he wants more than a 1.5M”

Geez, I am lost for words. That how they run a team in a “Bizarro World” I guess. I bet Yzerman still doing back flips.

Feels like a 1999 Denver Broncos running back theory, where they feel that anyone they throw in there can do the job. Olandis Nedeljkovic.

Well since they started Ned over Mrazek in the playoffs that seems unrealistic.

What is happening in Carolina? This trade is beyond horrible for them! Can't remember the last time I was so shocked by a trade.
