Default Final Cuts - Points Only

There's no rush to get this roster trimmed down to 17, we draft a day or two before the season begins. But, I have been thinking about my roster as I read up on the expansion draft, free agency and prospect draft coming up. I can afford to wait and see with DeAngelo, Kaprizov (KHL?), etc.

I have been a bottom dwelling team but made a major leap this season, but still off the podium. I'm struggling with my last several drops. My D are my biggest concern and deciding if I keep 2 or 3 G. At this point I feel too "close" to the team to make the best judgement calls. With unbiased eyes, what say you? I need to drop 4:

    Forwards (no positions)
    Scheifele - Huberdeau - Rantanen
    Aho - Pettersson - Point
    Kaprizov - Teravainen - J. Robertson
    Lafreniere - Hischier

    Defense
    M. Rielly - Theodore - Dahlin
    Werenski - DeAngelo - Boqvist
    Ty Smith

    Goalies
    Shesterkin - Hart - Samsonov
    9 Team Points Only Dynasty - 27 Player Roster (17 Keepers) - 12 F, 6 D, 2 UTL, 2 G, 5 Bench - 2.5G, 2A, 1PP, 2SHG, 1SHA, 3W, 2SO, 1OTL, 0.05SV

F: J Robertson, Huberdeau, Rantanen, Aho, Kaprizov, Scheifele, Connor, DeBrincat, Cozens, Ehlers, Toffoli, Kopitar, Trocheck, Schmaltz, W Johnston, Teravainen, J Quinn
D: Dahlin, Werenski, M Rielly, S Jones, McCavoy, Gustafsson
    G: Shesterkin, Bobrovsky

I think you need to keep a max of 2 G given that you have to cut 10 players. I might actually only keep 1 G. Is it points for the whole year or weekly matchups?

Your D look pretty solid, but it is just a 9 team league, so some young guys are more borderline. I think DeAngelo is likely a cut, but if he goes and signs somewhere, I'd try and deal him for a pick. He has good upside, but he's got a downside of out of the league quickly.

Possible drops in bold. See if you can deal a goalie+ for Hischier replacement, even tho I like your forwards. All depends on the deals you make from now until draft day. DeAngelo is a sure drop. Dropping the 2 goalies is tough but you could just redraft one back. I'd rather drop Smith over Boqvist. I really like your goalies too so I understand if you keep 2. Good luck

Good question, it's a whole year NOT weekly.

The young D in our league are borderline but both Smith and Boqvist appear to have pretty uncontested PP1 time as they develop. I am so hopeful for DeAngelo but will likely have to cut him.

There will be some solid G available in the draft and could probably get a Samsonov/Hart back or comparable G.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

Appreciate the input. I am starting to get on board with a DeAngelo drop but that's a toughie. I gave up a solid player for him (*ahem* DeBrincat *wipes tear away*)

I could see a Smith drop, and keeping a 2nd G. Washington will get their wins, and Philly could bounce back if Ellis is the Niskanen replacement they so desperately missed last season.

I'm starting to see a pattern here. Drop 2 G, DeAngelo and Hischier.
It would be my hope that the other GMs keep 2 goalies and aren't as much in need if I choose to drop too. That's my risk. To my benefit, GMs value their G in this league.
