At $44mill career earnings, he's about to double it and likely retire as an Oiler. And he ended up taking a paycut of $1mill.
Term will suck (he'll be 36yrs old when it's done) but they don't care about term. They have 4yrs of Draisaitl being underpaid and that's your window.

Flat cap, got his NMC and term, good for the team for sure. Seems like a win and nice to see a player not simply out for the most $$ because he clearly would have commanded more than $5 mil per on the market.

I had him projected at $6.5M which I thought was actually going to be low. What a steal for the Oil after a tough contract year for Nuge.

I like this for both sides. It takes him through his age 35 season at a reasonable cap hit. With his wheels I think RNH will age well. To get a proven top 6 forward, even with a hometown discount, for $5M per you have to give up term and in this case maybe only a year too long.

I wonder if this sets a precedence so to speak? With the economic reality in today's NHL, are we going to see more long term contracts for less $$ per year? I honestly think this is a good deal for both sides. Maybe we see more of this?
