We have limited knowledge of players wanting to do a surgery that the team didn't want. We have Eichel, Crosby, and McDavid to my knowledge bringing treatment they want to the table, I don't know how many have brought something to the table and the team said "No".

McDavid chose rehab over surgery too and that was the experimental aspect of it. My point wasn't that teams are willing to accept outside opinions on injuries. It was, what happens when a team says no the first time the player brings the outside opinion. McDavid and Crosby were told yes, but how many players bring something to the table a team says no, and the player say "oh ok, we'll do it your way".

Yeah, I don't think there's any possible way any one of us can say that 31 other teams think Buffalo is wrong. Maybe Buffalo is "wrong." They well could be. But the Eichel situation is unprecedented as far as I'm aware. A star player. An injury and surgery options that have non-insignificant chances of having lasting complications. The preferred player option having no track record with NHL players. The team and the player already at signifiant odds whereby the player has little care and trust for what the team thinks is best and the team being solely concerned about making sure a bad medical situation doesn't get worse under their watch in terms of decreasing the player's trade value.

So Buffalo well could be "wrong." But I literally can't think of another situation that is analogous to this one, much less have I read or heard anything that would allow any casual fan, serious fan, beat reporter, NHL insider or front office exec or even a team GM to conclude how every other team in the NHL would handle the situation.

We can all have opinions, and I'm not even expressing one. But let's not state opinion as fact.

What's a fact is Buffalo is following the wording in the CBA so if you want to scream bloody murder, scream it at the NHLPA for allowing that rule to be written in there. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean Buffalo is in the wrong. Could the Sabres move on this? Sure, but just because they aren't doesn't make them out to be in the wrong. They are following the CBA to the letter.

I'm not sure all of what you list here is relevant or even true. But that aside, the bolded portion (which really is the point in contention) is most certainly opinion.

Just because the CBA allows it does not make it right. I spent a long career in a field where there was often a clear delineation between right and wrong. Its also the way I was raised. I also know there are quite often gray areas in life. This is not one of the times. Doing the wrong thing and hiding behind a crap document to do it makes it worse.

If the Sabres are in the wrong as you state so definitively, why has the NHLPA not stepped in and come to his aid? Isn't that their purpose? To support and defend the members when they've been wronged? I'll tell you why, it's because they know the Sabres are not in the wrong here.
