Re: Gretzky steps away from the Oilers
getting the NHL on different Networks and out to more people is great, but i have a feeling that this TNT thing is gonna crash and burn, not in terms of the broadcast or the product/rating but in terms of the off-ice / in-studio stuff.
There's already so much excitement around hoping the NHL set will have the same feel as the NBA set (I've never seen more than 5 seconds of the set BTW, just what I've seen of clips of Barkley on air) as far as the on air personalities goes that there's no way it will live up to. I mean lets be honest here, a panel of middle aged white dudes IS NOT the same as a panel of middle aged black guys that know how to joke around and have fun.
they are going to try too hard, look bad, sound ridiculous and be an American version of what we see on CBC/SportsNet. Wayne isn't a great " TV personality", just as he wasn't a great coach. Yes he wil be fantastic at breaking down the game, and putting some insight into the players, but i don't feel he's going to be a great fit for a studio setting, joking around shooting barbs back and forth...i could be wrong?
