Like I wrote earlier, this is the most egregious use of LTIR and a player coming back for the playoffs that we have seen. Plus, add in the fact that it completely solved their salary cap crunch for this season. Sure, other teams do it to some level but not with a Conn Smythe-level player and not for the entire season. Kuch's LTIR just about covered the raises for Cirelli, Cernak, AND Sergachev. And then Kucherov is ready for game 1 of the playoffs? C'mon!

I’m a much bigger hockey fan than Blackhawks fan.

Riley Nash is making his Toronto Maple Leafs debut tonight. The NHL should definitely change the LTIR rules to prevent stuff like this from happening!!!

As for this embarrassing whining about some conspiracy theory,

Tyler Seguin had hip surgery Nov 2 and returned May 3
Nikita Kucherov had hip surgery Dec 23 and returned May 16

Looks about right to me. I promise everyone in this thread, that people don't just "choose" to have surgery. It is a last resort option. There is ALWAYS a risk that something can go wrong, even with the best surgeons and the most routine surgeries. If Kucherov had hip surgery, it's because he needed hip surgery. He recovered in less than 5 months. Arguably, he came back ahead of schedule not unlike Kane in 2015, who was supposed to be out until the WCF and ended up playing in game 1 of the playoffs.

And yet a Blackhawks fan nonetheless, the team that has exploited these rules more than any other team in the league. It's just laughable.

Honest question because I forget scheduling, but why was Kucherov's surgery that late in the yr again?

Injury happened December 3 while training, tried rehab for a couple weeks and decided to have surgery.

If he would have had surgery they day after the injury, December 4, returning May 16 still would have been a reasonable timeline.

I couldn't remember when the injury happened. All I could think of was maybe they delayed the surgery by a month to make it so he's not back during the season. But clearly that didn't happen.

Is that true or is that the explanation the Lightning gave? He played hurt throughout their entire cup run and it doesn't sound like he ever recovered from that.

(I don't care as if a team is good enough to make the playoffs without their best forward all season, then they should have every right to just pay the guy to rehab so they can have a stronger playoff team)

    1) If you scroll through Kucherov's injury history on rotoworld, the only injury mentioned is from a stick to the face during all of last years playoffs.

    2) None of us are Kucherov or Brisbois, so the only insight we have is the information they give us.

    3) The NHL has done a thorough investigation into Kucherov's injury and recovery timeline and have decided everything was done above board.

Not really. I watched less than 1 game of theirs this season mostly due to blackout reasons. They weren't really worth watching through a stream and having to sit through commercials. I primarily watched Toronto and Carolina. Hockey is much more enjoyable when you follow young exiting teams.

In terms of Chicago, many teams did front-loaded contracts and the NHL has made rules against it much like I hope they create rules against what Tampa is doing with LTIR this season. I too was skeptical about the Hossa skin issue but a lot has been reported since his retirement and it seems somewhat reasonable. Besides, they are a non-factor. Hossa's retirement hurt team a lot more than the cap relief helped.

On a side note, why do you bring such negativity and hostility to threads when you disagree with others?

IF someone wants to be a hypocrite, and being called out for it makes them perceive something to be hostile and negative, that is not my problem, that is a choice they have made.

LOL- you have a history on this board. I'm being a hypocrite? Now that is laughable.
