Relying on Buffalo (!) to win automatic promotion

Hey all,

Thought I'd share my current situation in my one year H2H quarter final:



I'm the team up 8-4 and today is the last day of the matchup. There are two leagues and if I win this matchup I get automatic promotion to the top league. I still have a chance at promotion if I lose, but would need to win the consolation playoffs. For your information, it's a deeper 16 team league so depth players also have value.

Here are my starters for today:

Skaters (11): (F) Pastrnak, Bjorkstrand, Buchnevich, Hischier, Zacha, DeBrusk, Cozens, and M. Wood; (D) Dahlin, Matheson and Lauzon
Goalies (2): Buffalo tandem

Here are my opponent's starters for today:

Skaters (12): (F) Zibanejad, Skinner, J.Carter, Coleman, Kakko, Bastian and Sherwood; (D) S.Jones, Grzelcyk, Hagg, Ceci and K.Miller
Goalies (1): Shesterkin

As you can see, he's going for hits and hope other close categories go his way. I picked up the Buffalo tandem to hopefully win saves and hold off elsewhere. But potentially the key info is that Buffalo is playing the Rangers today. If Buffalo can at least score to avoid giving him a shutout that would be a huge boost. I'm the top seed so presumably in case of a tie I win the matchup.

What are my chances? Predictions? I've added a poll just for fun.

Something tells me the Rangers will go back to Georgiev tonight but of course I will be wrong.

Tokarski confirmed. I’m assuming he’s one of the Buffalo G you have. You are definitely in the drivers seat and look good to win. I don’t see any way he can catch you in 4 cats to create at least the tie barring a complete miracle. Worst case is he gets a shutout and catches you in goals - still giving you 7-6 win. I don’t see him catching you anywhere else. And maybe you take SH% and blocks.

Thanks. Yeah I have Tokarski. The only other possibility is catching me in hits since he has a few guys that are strong there and my lineup today is more scoring-based. But agreed that a few things have to go right for him to win, but given how Shesterkin has been playing lately, I wouldn't be surprised if he got another shutout! I need a few goals more than him to have a chance at SH% and I'm pretty much out of it for blocks given he has more D today (forwards won't give me enough). But who knows - should be interesting to see how it turns out in the morning!

Just can't see you losing; Tokarski should be fine and help ensure you take saves. There's just way too many things that need to flip for you to lose.

Yes thankfully ended up winning 7-5. He took goals but I managed to hold the lead in hits (+6) and saves (+9).
