Florida Starting Rookie Spencer Knight??

goaliepost has it as confirmed that Florida is starting rookie goalie Spencer Knight tonight.

I drafted Bobrovsky and added Dreidger to get the handcuff. Florida is in 2nd/3rd spot in the division why the hell are they giving a rookie a start when Dreidger has been excellent this season (2.09, .927) and they are in the middle of a heated playoff race?? No injuries to Bobrovsky or Dreidger I can find.

Is this a one-off or is there a chance this kid makes the Florida crease even more crowded for the rest of the season?

He was the backup last night I think. But I honestly can't find anything on a "Knight should, on a personal point, play against CBJ" (grew up by Columbus, college hockey there, fan of CBJ. There's no ties!"

Could be just letting him get some playing time as an NHL pro. I don't think Dredger would be booted from the G2 role come playoffs.

I hope it is just a one-and-done but seems really weird, even for a top prospect, to get a start for a team battling for a playoff spot with 2 capable goalies....

I cannot find any cap reasons he needs to play a game either... Maybe he was promised a start when he signed or something. and who cares about NHL Playoffs, I'm worried about fantasy playoffs!

Ya, I'm sure they want to get him because they signed him. Maybe he gets a game next week in Nashville with the double header.

With their upcoming schedule though, this is really the only "not important opponent" game left. (CBJ, CAR, NSH, CHI, DAL, TBL) Could be the reason too.

I'd be surprised if Knight plays 3 games this yr unless there's an injury.

Look at it differently. The back half of B2B, playing the Jackets between series against Tampa then Carolina...? This is the definition of a dangerous looking-ahead-of-us situation. So playing for the kid’s first game gives then more incentive?? Just a thought. I’ll put my nickel on the Panthers.

i may spot start him. in all my leagues many goalies have kept on rosters than normal, so spot starting off the waiver is pretty bare. road b2b for a dominant home team is a favourable matchup.

Argh!!! So frustrating, I used my last pick last week to take Drediger to spot start for tonight's game...

Might consider spot starting Knight.. what are the odds he does well first game against a B2B vs Columbus.... or a big blow out lol.

This seems nuts to me, but if it's part of an agreement they made when signing, it makes sense. Not saying it's smart by Florida, but there's a non-zero chance it's coming from somebody not in hockey operations, since it's Florida.

i started him in 2 leagues lol. as a non-bob/driedger owner, i dont agree with the above. good to see what you got in the kid if both goalies get hurt in the playoffs. dont want him playing a game cold in the playoffs.

I planned on playing Driedger and Ned. No other alternative looked better, so I crossed my fingers and added Knight to Ned. 0.4 pts for Vasilevsky, and my competition also had either Shesterkin or Jarry so I actually went from down to up in my three toughest leagues.
