Pretty nice deal for multi-cat.
Depends heavily on the no-trade clause. If they were smart, they didn't give him one in years 4 & 5.

Winnipeg Jets fan and season ticket holder's opinion;
Love and hate this deal. Much rather have Andrew Copp tied down to a deal. Love it because Adam Lowry is a heart and soul guy and even his father works within the organization. Plus the player loves it in Winnipeg. He's bought into the system and puts it all out there. Issue I have is lack of polish and upside. Where as Copp has broke out into a top-six NHLer, I don't see anything better for Lowry than a bottom-six role, and finally why I hate, nay, dislike it, because momma always taught me that hate is a strong word, that cap hit and term. While it's not a massive cap hit, it's still one that makes a big enough dent for a bottom-sixer who is limited to what you see is what you get. It's also a contract during a flat cap, which won't go up anytime soon due to COVID-19 and the lack of fans being allowed to games. In Winnipeg, that's a FAT zero. Also the Jets are very shallow on defence. Money invested there is more important. When you look at what the Jets have invested into their forwards compared to their defence, it's night and day. And this now limits and handicaps us from making multiple significant signings.
And finally we come back to Copp, the true Swiss Army knife player of the Jets that can play any forward position and play up and down the line up and be used on both special teams, with the upside of a 30 goal, 60 point producer now. I wonder what his next payday is going to look like. If we lose him, then that dislike of Lowry's contract ends up edging closer towards hate.

MNTC through all yrs. It's a "submit a 6team NO trade list". So a very limited no trade clause.
12 Team, H2H, Keep 6 (in Bold)

RW: Pavelski (C), Giroux (C), Svechnikov (LW)
D: Fox, Makar, Bouchard, Morrissey, Gudas
Util: Meier (LW, RW)
G: Oettinger, Georgiev, Samsonov, Woll
Or, he doesn't get added as a cap causality to a bottom dweller team.
Seattle, CBJ, Detroit, Ottawa, Buffalo, NJD I would think would be on his list. So much can change yr to yr, but he can at least control somewhat where he goes and if he knows bad locker rooms he can avoid them if he chooses. 6 team MNTC are totally fine in my books, player has some control, team has a lot of options, best of both worlds.

i think this will be fine as i really like a player...but these types of deal is what hurt teams....and ok producer at best but inconsistent over the years and he got paid for what he has done last few months....

Brandon Tanev was clearly the comparable contract here.
As a Pens fan, I didn't like it when it was signed but Tanev has been gold. Lowry is probably bringing similar benefits to the Jets.
Curious if this will be the going rate for bottom 6 guys moving forward. You have to imagine this is the starting point for guys like Goodrow and Coleman.

I won't lie, I hate the deals where the contract length number is higher than the dollar value. I can't really think of someone who signed a deal like this that worked out fully 2yrs after. However, I can't think of any right now aha. Could just be weird closed mind thinking by me though.

Ya maybe that's the one I'm thinking of.
It's all good if your GM can manage the other pieces easily. It's just a different mindset to GMs who load up the top (Leafs) and use bargain bins to fill the bottom. This is utilizing a locked up stars (wheeler, Connor, Ehlers, Scheifele, Helly) and getting the guys you want in the bottom 6.
I get it more that I've dwelled on it. Winnipeg has a lot of stars locked up Long term.

Jarnkrok and Mayfield both worked out pretty well. It is uncommon though.

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
Yeah this term doesn't sit well with me. He's simply not that good, but I get it you have to overpay and over commit to guys who have been the positive part of your core.

Watching the Flyers game tonight, I missed an obvious example of how well this can work out: Couturier signed for 6 years at 4.33 million in 2015. He was younger, but it was a sizeable extension.
