Laine's attitude... I don't get it. The level of effort he needs to put into his defensive game is a shade higher than the effort of sleeping, and he just doesn't.

I keep saying it over and over again. Laine is absolutely a terrific goal scorer, but a horrible hockey player in virtually every other facet of the game.

I'm so happy for Roslovic...not that I know much about the player or anything, but I just love it when a player goes to a new team and finally gets a chance to prove himself and makes the most of the situation. I know it is only 7 games, but I hope he keeps it up.

Exactly! Most coaches employ a system where the weak-side winger helps in the slot.

Anyone that is excusing Laine for these is forgetting that it is a team sport.

Both those examples in the video... there is 0 effort for him to even try to get the guy who is clearly in a prime scoring spot.
If Laine even attempted to make a stride towards the player with a little effort then it might be a different story.

Then the two defensemen in the video abandoned the system. I can't imagine any system that tells a defenseman to leave his position in order to make an extra hit. Again, I am not excusing Laine, and his 0 effort was pitiful there, but the two D made brutal plays which, in my estimation, led directly to the scoring chance and contributed more heavily to the goal. I'd have given them both a good talking to after those plays.

Torts has long been a coach (person?) whose style rubs people the wrong way. He seems quite inconsistent, and is the kind of coach you get to shake things up, but you need to get rid of before things go too far awry.

It is unknown what exactly transpired, but the 22-year-old reportedly “mouthed off” to the CBJ coach, causing Tortorella to punish him with a classic Torts benching.
