Kerfoot hurt in scrimmage. No word yet on severity or time-table.

The big thing from this.... they're looking at Engvall, Brook, Spezza as 3rd line replacement with Mikheyev & Hyman rather than swap Thornton & Hyman and move someone else to wing.

Keefe is really wanting a 3rd line checking line. On the bright side, Hyman's getting looks on the PP with mathews, marner & rielly.

A lot of moving parts in Toronto. Could be 3-5 reg. season games before the dust settles.

One thing that has been consistent is Hyman on 3rd line. Two days from start of season. It's no longer a practice line.

Keefe also called out Engvall's play on the weekend, I'm curious to see who they start with at 3C

“I expect better from Pierre,” Keefe said. “Got to re-direct him toward the other end of the ice.”

Another interesting practice line that I'm keeping an eye on to see if it sticks

Grigorenko with Oliver Bjorkstrand and Pierre-Luc Dubois on Columbus' 1st line as well as seeing power-play time.

Pierre has been gifted an NHL spot, but he's so not taking advantage of it.

We’re looking at 100+ players that will be posted on the NHL waiver wire in about 90 minutes. Few teams have made cuts to this point and anyone you want to re-assign to the AHL or Taxi Squad needs to hit waivers today. Could be the biggest waiver day in league history.

I certainly hope they're simply experimenting and giving so reps to other players in case they have to step in.
It was struggling a bit mid season before the shut down. The second unit last year was pretty anemic, so when the first unit struggled, the entire powerplay did. To be honest, I wonder if this might impact everyone's PP time on both units. We started to see Keefe load up his line that came right out after the PP ended, and I wonder if this is being done with that in mind.

PP1 plays about 70 second of the PP
PP2 plays the next 50 seconds

If there still isn't a goal when the powerplay ends, Matthews/Marner jump on fresh in the hopes of overwhelming the PK unit.

Yeah... it should be a super busy day in NHL.
I think the NHL normally processes "waivers" at noon EST.
And then teams need to see who clears by noon EST tomorrow (Tuesday)...
So that they can submit their rosters by 5pm tomorrow (Tuesday).

I'm assuming rosters include both the main 20-23 man team.
And the 4-6 player taxi squad.

You gotta think NHL GMs and Ass't GMs are really trying to figure out who they want on that taxi-squad...
And what it means for development of those players.

(And does the taxi-squad need to be separated a bit... for COVID measures... or will they just mix/intermingle with the main group as a "team"???)

The Habs have Weal and Juulsen on waivers currently.
And we saw two claims the other day - with Djoos being grabbed by DET, and Forsling being grabbed by FLA.

Found this in the CBA - I was wondering what happens if a team claims a player off waivers and then has to waive him to send him to the taxi squad...

13.22 When a Club claims a Player on Regular or Unconditional Waivers, and, subsequently,
in the same season it requests Waivers on the same Player and the original owning Club is the
successful and only Club making a Waiver claim, then the original owning Club shall be entitled
to Loan such Player to a club in another league within thirty days without further Waivers being
asked; provided that such Player has not participated in ten or more NHL Games (cumulative)
and remained on an NHL roster more than thirty days (cumulative) following such successful
    claim.
Seems like it would be possible for players to end up in waivers purgatory - being waived and claimed several times due to this taxi-squad process. Am I missing something?

If a player claimed on waivers, is waived again during the season and the team who lost him is the only team who put in a claim on him, he can be sent to the minors (or the taxi squad) for that team and not have to go through waivers again.

That's what I feel like too because I feel like there will be a ton of game time decisions. So then is Player A taken off the taxi squad to warm up / prep for potential game only to be moved back on that night?

^Yeah, I read that Adam Brooks might be taking the C4 spot.
I don't put much stock in public accolades for players...
But I do put a lot of stock in public criticisms of players.

Actually - speak of the devil...
Capfriendly is showing Engvall as moved "to minors". (also: Liljegren, Kivihalme, Hollowell, Engvall, and J.Anderson - sigh...)
