We pretty much anticipated this. Here's hoping he can actually get healthy and return next season better than ever.

"Cleavage is like the sun. You can look, but dont stare.. Unless you're wearing sunglasses."
No shock here. If there's a silver lining, it may get the Oilers an exemption in the Seattle expansion draft. The NHL would have to make a ruling, but there is language in the expansion draft rules regarding players missing the entire season with career threatening injury. I wonder if it doesn't have to be more explicit like Johnny Boychuk literally retiring because of his vision but it's something to ponder about.
Were the Oilers to get an exemption they could go 7F/3D and protect more players. As it stands, they are more likely to go 8 skaters, and protect Klefbom, Nurse, Bear and Jones (Bouchard, Broberg, etc. aren't eligible to be picked), while exposing a few forwards with upside like Kahun and Puljujarvi.
There's no sugar-coating this though. This is brutal. Klefbom has been a lone shining light in a dark place that has been the Oilers defense for the past 5 years. Things are looking up, but losing Klefbom is massive. More over, this is a guy in his 20's experiencing serious, degenerative pain, which you never want to see. If the NHL did give the Oilers an exemption for Klefbom, it would likely be because the shoulder is looking to force him to retire, which is just brutal to think about for the person.
