I just won first overall pick in Expansion draft. HELP! AS much Rep as possible.

Hi Team,

This is my first Roto style league.

I just won the first overall pick in a roto league expansion draft. Cats are G, A, +/-, PPP, HIT, D Points, W, and SV%.

We start 3C, 3LW, 3RW, 4D, 2G(max 2 goalies on entire roster), 3Bench, and 2IR spots.

There are 4 expansion teams that will select 3 "Keepers" in a snake format. 1-4, 4-1, 1-4.

Who do I take 1st, 8th, and 9th? "Top 50" players are.

Here's a tip for you. Do some research yourself and trim your list.

No one is going to recommend guys like Gusev, Reinhart, etc, as a top 10 pick. I always appreciate as much info as possible but a lot of people will look at your list of players and not even bother. I know I do most times. Trim it down on the guys you already know you won't take and who most won't even recommend.

Second, how is it in a league with hits and D points as cats is there not one D available?

You've got three picks in the top 10. I can't tell you who to take at 8-9 because I have no clue who's going 2-7. I can't see your team's roster to know your strengths and weaknesses but for me, I'm probably taking Huberdeau 1st overall.

With only two goalie cats, they don't hold great value.

Since you’re joining into an existing league, it may be difficult to compete with some established rosters right out of the gate. I’m not sure how strong the other teams look.

But it might be worthwhile to focus on some great young players you can build as your core to make the team your own

My two main targets would be:
Lafreniere
Quinn Hughes

After that I’d look at taking best player available with an eye on positional need.

I wouldn't burn a high pick on goalies (only two categories) or Cs (the easiest position to fill, especially with no FOWs). So wingers and D would be my top choices.

What we don't know is if you think you can compete to win out of the gate or not. That could be the difference between a Huberdeau or a Laffy.

Nobody knows your strategy, so I'm not sure why you'd rely on people for your picks.

If you've got fantasyhockeygeek, just sort it based on your custom settings, and then adjust it for age if you can't compete right off the bat?

I am 1 of 4 new expansion teams. My plan is to build for 2 years "Tank" with the goal to get Shane Wright in 2022, then push for the title.

Stage one of the draft is the expansion draft. 3 rounds to acquire 3 players (keepers). then 2 rounds for all 16 teams to acquire 2 more "Keepers". then the primary draft starts.

This is what is left over from the current established teams keeping 3 players? If they only keep 3 as well, then you should be able to compete right away.
take Lafrenierre 1st - go with superstar potential, and hope Shesterkin falls to 8, and you will also get a star player at 9.

I’d go Lafreniere at #1. Then I’m doubting Q. Hughes will be there at #8 so I’d target Werenski and Guentzel. Werenski strong in points, young, and improving team. Guentzel scores plenty and led Penguins in hits 2018-19 (shoulder injury last year, was leading Pens in goals when he went down).

this confirms my initial thought of taking Lafreniere at #1. after that we will see what options are available.

I also like Guentzel, I was surprised to see how many hits he gets. Hits are a new category for me, I have to do my homework.
