A bit surprising from the Devils. They need to add cap as they are still under the cap floor with this deal but this could block one of ty smith and Bahl to make the nhl next year.
for a 5th. no salary retained

If you are worried about a trade being bad because it blocks Kevin Bahl from making your team, you are definitely looking at things wrong. This is a great trade for the Devils. A 5th round pick for a guy that's been better than a replacement level dman in all 7 of his seasons is a good move. IF Murray can stay healthy he's a bonafide top 4 guy. That's a big if but it's worth a 5th round pick.
Great low risk move for NJ. I was surprised CLB moved him out. He's a good player when healthy.
man , I remember when the under 17's were held in timmins and Murray was playing for team west . I said to my dad , look how smooth that kid looks out there . I bet he makes it to the NHL.
Yakupov-Murray-Galy-Reinhart....is that the worst top 4 in any draft ever?
I took a quick look and every other draft has at least 1 or 2 good options in the top 4. 1999 was close but the Sedin's went 2/3.
Maybe if you dig back to the 70's/80's there's a worse one but with the scouting limitations back then, they would definitely get a bit of a pass.
Maybe NJ looks to flip him at the trade deadline if he has a good/healthy year. He's a UFA after this season and I'm sure they could get better than a 5th round pick for him.
