(No I don't have a hockey problem...)

This is 10 years old but still funny to see Chris Rock talk about it back then. It's sad and still true today, but nice to have a little levity about a serious issue. For those who have never seen this before, enjoy.

I will speak as a french-can. It's not the same but I think you are from canada so you probably know what I'm talking about. Until the 1960-70ishh no Québecois was allowed to have a high position in a corporation. Funding where going in huge part to english school (as you can see with McGill) and english sports-teams. My grand parents were left with the habitants, the frogs. One day we decided that was enough. It wasn't pretty, we had a lot of protest and riots. People had the same short memory but they changed, we call it "révolution tranquille". Now, we can still feel the little difference between QC and the rest that is an other subject but we had an avantage that black people don't have: Quebecois were the same color has the rest of Canada. It's easy, we just learned English, but they can't change color.
You feel what him saying? Maybe the boycott, the protest, the seat-in or whatever won't change a thing...But they have to try...we have to try... Because one thing we forget in the american dream, is that whites were many steps ahead to begin with.

Listen, I totally agree that it's better to do something instead of nothing. As I said earlier in this thread, I hope something positive comes out if it all but considering this has been going on for literally decades, if not centuries, I can't help but be skeptical for real change anytime soon.
But again, better to do something instead of nothing. I fully support what they are doing.

I feel like I am in the twilight zone, when did people lose all common sense? Hearing people say you deserve to be punched if your support Trump is horrible. You are part of the problem and radically left. There is radically right too see Kyle Rittenhouse. Never have two political lines been so divided and it's sad to see. I honestly think this is by design to keep only two political party's in power I am economically Conservative but a lot of my views are liberal. I think both party's are getting so radical in their views, that having an independent in the middle seems the most logical to me.
Here are some facts for you...
"According to The Guardian's database, in 2016 the rate of fatal police shootings per million was 10.13 for Native Americans, 6.6 for black people, 3.23 for Hispanics; 2.9 for white people and 1.17 for Asians.[12] In absolute numbers, police kill more white people than any other race or ethnicity, however this is because white people make up the largest proportion of the US population" This to me hardly says there is a massive problem and that like the media is portraying black people fear for their life's from officers.
"According to the US Department of Justice, African Americans accounted for 52.5% of all homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008, with Whites 45.3% and "Other" 2.2%. The offending rate for African Americans was almost eight times higher than Whites, and the victim rate six times higher. Most homicides were intraracial, with 84% of White victims killed by Whites and 93% of African American victims killed by African Americans" Highest death rates are African American on African American at 93%. They There offending rate is over 8 times higher! This is the problem.
The last thing I find ridiculous is the media painting Jacob Blake like he was innocent. Did he deserve to be shot like he did? No. But he was far from innocent. He had a criminal record, a warrant for his arrest and was driving around with his kids with a knife in his vehicle.
Give your self righteous heads a shake. Then as others have pointed out, you feel the best way to combat this is more violence?

NBA employees are striking today to call elected officials.
I think this would have been more effective and more impact if it was the NBA decideds to give employees the day off to call elected officials.
The thing they are striking/boycotting for is for equality and harmony... wouldn't it not look better if the NBA and the employees presented a harmonious and supportive front. Rather than...the negative connotation of 'striking'.
I guess this might be a glass half full vs a glass half empty situation... but I would love to see some positive/good ways of supporting this rather than negative/boycotting/striking ways of supporting it.
Evander Kane is complain about being late to the party.... who's fault is that? Evander Kane himself was late to the party.
Norm Powell and Fred Van Fleet were discussing it a a long time before it actually happened. So it built up steam in the NBA and they did it.
I didn't hear anything from Evander Kane or anyone until after the Bucks had made the decision to boycott the game. That is when the NHL players started talking about it.
So if we compare the time between Powell and FVV and the NBA boycotting the games... and Evander Kane and MAtt Dumba and the NHL boycotting games.. it is quite comparable.
I strongly dislike when people complain about something... then get the result that they wanted when they complained... and then complain that it wasn't done right or fast enough.
And if you think about it... the NHL wasn't the last to the party... what has the NFL done? The MLB postponed some games but not all? Golf? Racing?
The games start back up again today for the NHL and NBA.
Did the "pause" help the cause? It definitely brought light to it but how long will that candle burn before it flames out?
What's everyone's thoughts on if this pause really made a significant difference.

"Cleavage is like the sun. You can look, but dont stare.. Unless you're wearing sunglasses."
Nothing's gonna make a "significant difference" overnight when you're talking about something like social injustice which has been ingrained for centuries. Progress will largely be very incremental. Remember, this is partly happening in the sports world because of a small gesture by Colin Kaepernick 5 years ago on a football field. FIVE YEARS! That's how long change takes to percolate - but that little gesture (which in hindsight... monumental) got the ball rolling.
So this week's boycotts - they got people talking, it got the attention of the President, it got the attention of the billionaire owners who influence politicians, and it instilled courage in many other players across different sports to use their platforms - so yes it made a difference. Every additional person thinking about these issues and talking about them within their family walls or publicly makes a difference.
If everyone thought the way that you do, then nobody would ever do anything and there would never be any change.
Once again, the media is painting a minor as some kind of white supremacist, after he himself was attacked. Just like the Covington School kids, before the whole story has a chance to come out, this kid has already been tried and judged. CNN just had to pay Nick Sandman $80 million for defamation.
I think Kyle Rittenhouse might be headed for a similar payout. How are the mob of white-leftist thugs chasing him down in the street not the white supremacists? Theare destroying a city, this guy was trying to clean up the mess.
The white-left are the supremacists and racialisers, treating us poor little POCs like pets or your wards. Piss off, we can help ourselves, and you are using our identities as weapons for your own virtue signalling self-aggrandizement. "I'm so anti-racist I hate white people, see?".
This is how you get 30plus percent black support for Trump.
Stop trying to show everyone how woke you are, I don't need self-righteous white people dictating my own racial identity to me, telling me that my country and culture hate me, and that an entire race of people are out to destroy me, and that if a white person dares to defend his life from a violent (white) mob of terrorists (violence and intimidation for political ends - its the definition of it) this is proof.
"People of colour" (is that what all us non-whites get called by the white folk?) can take care of themselves, and we don't appreciate seeing violent mobs of white people running around destroying cities in our name.
Kyle Rittenhouse is appreciated by this POC, call him names if you want, I can think for my own little brown self.
Cancellation of the games does not affect me, I wasn't watching.

Honestly I fully support the NHL and the players for playing those games. The NHL has already shown it's support for the BLM movement. It doesn't need to be sheep and follow along what other leagues do. It can decide on it's own and with the support of the players, what actions it wants to do. It's not going to change over night... take the time do it right. Being united is a better way to convey the message.
