Ouch... that is a stiff penalty. Chayka got out just in time. How does a team like Arizona survive without those picks.

Because of trades and what not, I've read the Coyotes do not have a pick in the first three rounds this year, and if Hall resigns, won't have a pick in the first two rounds next season either.

Losing those picks, the chance to re-sign Hall just went from slim to (basically) none.

If he doesn't re-sign, then the Coyotes are out a first and third next year. (The third converts to a second for New Jersey if Hall re-signs.)

So pretty much Chayka saved face by walking away as opposed to getting fired when this penalty came out.

Woof. That's a tough blow. But I like the stiff penalties here for violating the rules. They are going to need their young guys to really step up.

It wouldn't seem so harsh if they came down on the on-ice transgressions properly.

They could always move Phil the Thrill to recoup those picks...

Yeah, they might get half that.

Although, Kapanen netted about that much, so if Arizona kept some of Kessel's salary then a $4M Kessel could be an asset.

Arizona only has $1.5 million in cap space next year. If they re-sign Hall, they have to try to move a player for picks.
