It was tough vote for me between Rask and Helly. I know Rask is on the better team..but I ended up deciding him but it came down to a coin flip.
Its either a coin flip or looking strictly at stats.

I think Helle is going to win the vote. Between these three and Markstrom though I would have been happy with any of them.

I'm good with either Rask or Hellebuyck.
Helle stole a LOT of games for a Winnipeg team that had a lot of D turnover.
But Rask's SV% is elite.
I don't know what more you can ask of a guy then to give you 58/82 possible Team points in 41 starts.
That's 1.4pts per start.
If a team did that over 82gp... that's 115pts.
There's been exactly 1 team in each of the past 5 seasons to top that topped 115pt (pace): BOS (19/20), TB (18/19), NAS (17/18), WAS (16/17), WAS (15/16).
The past four winners: Vas(TB 18/19), Rinne(NAS 17/18), Bob(CBJ 16/17), Holtby (WAS 15/16).
*When Bob won in 2017... he had better SV% and GAA than Holtby... and that's not something Helle can show this year.
I think it'll be a very close vote.
Like many awards, a guy usually needs a few past elite seasons to have the name recognition to get the votes.
Hellebuyck had a brilliant 17/18, with 2nd place voting... so he's done enough to get enough votes.
Will be close though... I think.
Hellebuyck definitely deserves this.. He carried the Jets!!
Halak and Rask both could have been nominated with the way the B's played this season infront of them!!

I voted Rask because I think he will win. But I think Hellebuyck deserves to win. More starts for Hellebuyck, and Rask had a better team in front of him.

With all the discussions I've had with goalie folks on my pod, it feels like Markstrom got boned here a little. He carried the Canucks for a decent stretch. Hellebuyck is my #1 guy here, I'm amazed at how well he played behind that defense. Markstrom's defense was perhaps even leakier and he performed well. Rask crushed it under favourable circumstances but that doesn't downplay how he crushed it.
