The three-tiered DobberHockey roto-league needs some help! We have a weekly bidding system implemented in that if a team wants a free agent, he has $100 (to last the entire year) to make a bid. Shoeless has a template set up (via Google spreadsheet) that will take these bids.

The problem is – Shoeless is on the other side of the world, and with the time zone difference, our deadline (noon Wednesdays) is late at night for him.

So every week at noon we need someone neutral (i.e. not in one of the three tiers) to pull the results, pick out the winners and send them to Russ (the “comish”) for final vetting. The dollars paid for each player need to be subtracted from that team’s FA budget. Shoeless estimates this part of the job to take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the volume.

    You must be:
    1. Reliable. We need these results sent to Russ by 4pm ET Wednesday
    2. Knowledgeable in Excel

    Please post here if interested.

how often is this done? when is the deadline to get all these bids in? I may be interested in helping out, just not sure how much work it will be. Maybe if shoeless can shoot me a quick email or something with more details.

I can step up to this if it is still required. Assuming i can get on the site needed to get the results while at work i will have no issues.

Russ should be able to speak for my Excel work as well as my reliability

Would be great to have you guys. Shoeless has done an admirable job but staying up till the wee hours of the morning to process FA Bids for a league he\'s not even a part of is not an ideal situation for the poor guy!

I second doulos on this one. Shoeless is doing a great job, but I\'m sure he\'ll appreciate the break!

 You aren\'t my type Joe.

I think Dobber laid this job out pretty well. From my perspective the crucial element is being free to process the bids between 12 noon and about 3 PM EST/EDT on Wednesdays. You can actually do it by just looking at a spreadsheet that gives you all the bids - being methodical is really the best asset there. Intergrity is also important - the information that comes in is to be held in confidence except for the successful bids - especially when guys try to find out how much they overbid by.

However, while Dobber hasn\'t stated this outright, he knows and I believe there is an opportunity to bump this process up a level or two by someone who knows spreadsheets well (I don\'t!!:P ). The process at the moment is to send out a form (using google.docs) that bidding GM\'s complete and send back - a spreadsheet for that league and that week then automatically gets filled with their bids. After that, the process is manual - this is where someone might be able to automate the identification of winning bids and also the updating of the GM\'s account balances.

My guess is that I will graciously back out of the whole process when the time is right - it isn\'t particularly onerous, just for me, poor timing because of my location and perhaps to some degree a lack of computer skills. But I certainly will welcome sharing the load as well. We can talk about that as things evolve.

I am sure that is true Chinny - Russ pressed me into service when it looked like we would just use an email process and I knew just enough to avoid going through the pain of opening 50 emails a week and transcibing bids - that\'s where I hit the wall with my know-how. I am not embarrassed to admit I know shit about spreadsheets - I have other skills - errr let\'s see what are they again?

Hopefully Dobber picks a victim soon and we can get on with this.
