Great...GM of the Year candidate
Terrible...What were they thinking?
Let me know how this team did over the past year with their transactions. It's a 31 team full dynasty league (we keep players until the become NHL UFAs) that dresses NHL lineups (18 skaters + a goalie) and uses the NHL AAVs and the NHL salary cap. We use a ton of stats and defensive dmen have good value.
Assume your favorite NHL team made these changes and let me know if you think it was a successful season.

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
The 2020 will be anywhere from 19 to 31. The 2021 will be anywhere from 1 to 32.
Classic futures for win-now pieces.
I can see this starting to hurt in a year or two due to depth issues in a league like this.
But if you're in win-now mode and this gets you over the hump, it's worth it.
I think you've come out quite a bit ahead.

GM of the year (if you make or win the finals) or Terrible (if you miss the playoffs). It's hard to evaluate without knowing where you team is at. If you have a realistic shot at winning, well done.
Sadly, it's a none of the above, due to poor poll choices. If I was rating it from 1-5, it'd be a 3.5 or 4, assuming contender. So clearly "good job by the GM", but I wouldn't call it GM of the year candidate, but for a team in contention now, it looks good.

To be honest, the team in question is not mine. I am taking votes on the GM of the Year in my 31 team dynasty league and was shocked when this GM received votes.
He finished the 2018/19 regular season with 101 points in 82 games. He made all these moves since the end of last season and finished this regular season with 105 points. He was 4th in his division last year (2nd wildcard spot) and 3rd in his division this year. Playoffs start tonight.
I doubt he gets enough votes to win

It's been a weird year in our league. 10 teams received votes for GM of the Year when in most years it is 2 or 3 teams. I also changed the voting to happen after the regular season instead of after the playoffs were finished to stop teams for just voting for the Cup Champion.
That change has likely caused people to actually think a lot more, which is a double edged sword.
It's good having people think, but when people who are bad at thinking have to think, we sometimes get strange results.
