respect the Avery pick, he had ability beyond waving a stick in the goalies face.

Now that we're pretty much done the draft, what was everyone's strategy?

Mine was pretty simple. Forward on goal-scoring forwards for the top two lines at the start, and not worry about defense until the middle rounds and goalies until the end. My thinking was that with only eight GMs, even if everyone else chose three goalies before the end, I'm still getting the 22nd, 23rd and 24th best goalies of all time.

Writer of the weekly Top 10 column.

12-team Keeper pool, straight points for forwards & dmen. Goalies get: 2 points per win, 3 per shutout, 1 point per assist & 1 point per shootout loss.

    League champ in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Top 8 forwards, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

We keep 15 players (any position) plus two rookies.

Forwards: Panarin, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Stamkos, Tuch, Rust, Marchessault, Pavelski, Miller, Bertuzzi, Stone, Kakko, Brown, Stankoven, Kovalenko
Defence: Hedman, Fox, Matheson, Thrun, Jiricek
Goalies: Kochetkov, Talbot, Vasilevskiy, Campbell, Schmid

My strategy was to try and draft players that can be pried with one another while also grabbing players I love and respect (with the exception of Marchand and Roenick).

Crosby & Kurri (subbing Sid in for Wayne of course).
    Lindros & Kariya.
Bergeron, Marchand & Roenick (subbing in for Pastrnak).
All three of my D pairings would work very well together in my opinion.
Plus my role guys in McSorley and Avery.
Didn’t put much thought into my goaltending. In hindsight I’d go back and draft more recent goalies maybe.

But you’ll get my full but quick explanation in the matchup thread.

Get Hasek to have a goalie that can steal games for me. I wanted to get players who can give my team a physical edge to let guys like Malkin and Jagr light it up! I focused on a ton of two way forwards, Zetterberg, Keon, and Francis to give a couple of examples. Defense is made up of current players pretty much but Harvey is one of the best defensemen of all time while Chara and Weber will help out with my physical identity.
12 team deep keeper league, 17 main roster players, 5 prospect players, max 2 goalie keepers for the main roster. point breakdown goes as follows:
    Skaters:
G is 4 points, 5.2 points for D goals. A is 2.5 points, 3.25 points for defense. 0.07 per FOW, 0.2 points for blocks, hits, and SOG 0.5 points for PIMS and +/-, 3 for SHG, 1.5 for SHA.
    Goalies:
GS is 1.5 points, -1 for GA, 0.2 for SV, 4 for SHO, and 3 for W.

Strategy? I was looking for players who, whether their “prime” was their entire career, or just a few years, were the best. Thus the several Russians whose NHL career numbers were only part of their story. Tretiak, obviously - but many others who were stars before their defection AND then won Cups. Also careful I had wingers, not just centers. And a true fantasy 4th line. Lastly, I agree with Kawee that best GK’s win games they have no business doing.

But for the matchups? I picked winners.

Hard is what i focused on... hard-working players and players that are hard to play against.

Some references of players on my team 'junkyard dog', 'bulldog tenacity'

Even Gordie Howe called one of my players the 'strongest' player in hockey.

And I did all of this without sacrificing points per game and plus/minus per game

Once the playoff round starts, should each of us vote in the three quarterfinals that we’re NOT in ??

Did anyone know that they named the best goalie of the year trophy after a guy named Georges Vezina... who was just drafted in the last round!

I built my team from the back out, hence my top 4 D!! Orr, Bourque, Niedermayer, and Pronger are a top 4 that can't be beat. I don't even need a third pairing after those four.. But a shutdown pairing of Rod Langway and Seth Jones may be sufficient!!

My 3 goalies have Stanley cups, multiple Conn Smythe's and Vezina's, aswell as a Hart Trophy!! Everyone's goalies are quite stacked!!

My forwards are no slouches either.. I wanted to draft skill first and mix in some grit guys aswell.. I also wanted to get some chemistry flowing through my lines, and I think I have accomplished that!! I like my team..

Thank you PH for hosting this and asking me to be apart of it..

Clearly they need to re-name some of these awards. The Rocket Richard -> Ovechkin. Norris -> Orr. Art Ross -> Gretzky. Hart -> Lemieux (?). Vezina -> Brodeur. Move these into the realm where we honor players we’ve experienced. Some, if not all, of these older names have been eclipsed. Leadership award (Messier) could certainly have been several old-timers. “Messier” means more to those who watched him lead.

Idea for new thread? Re-naming awards??

Hasek> Brodeur IMO. Here are my lines:

Forwards:Brendan Shanahan- Evgeni Malkin- Jaromir Jagr
    Keith Tkachuk-Henrik Zetterberg-Teemu Selanne
    Artemi Panarin-Ron Francis-Daniel Alfredsson
Michel Goulet- Dave Keon- Matthew Tkachuk
    Jamie Benn-Aleksander Barkov-Patrik Laine

    Defensemen:
    Zdeno Chára- Doug Harvey
    Victor Hedman- Shea Weber
    Mark Giordano- Alex Pietrangelo

    Goalies:
    Dominik Hasek
    Roberto Luongo
    Sergei Bobrovsky

    My final team:

    Ovechkin-Gretzky-Robitaille
    Hull-Oates-Esposito
    Iginla-Gilmour-Hossa
    Clark-Lach-Roberts

    Leetch-Cameron
    Karlsson-Gary Suter
    Markov-Doughty

    Lundqvist
    Durnan

Bench: Fleury, Leclair, Conacher, Joseph (G)

I'm pretty pleased with this team. Multiple 60-goal scorers on the top two lines with set-up centres. A great shutdown third line that can score. A tough fourth line that can score. Every line with at least one 50-goal scorer, and 50-goal scorers on my bench. Some scoring threats on defense with players that can play defense. Goaltending I talked about already, but I would happily take Lundqvist late in a draft to be a number one netminder on this team.

Although I'm debating switching out Lach for Fleury on that fourth line. That would be a pesky fourth line with Wendal Clark and Gary Roberts.
