I went with ROR, who wins his 2nd award of the night.
I do agree that all three are deserving here.
"The Frank J. Selke Trophy is an annual award given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game."
If the NHL regular season has closed its doors for 2019-20, let's take a look at what the trophy situation might look like. Next up, those defensively responsible forwards.
Last years winner was Ryan O'Reilly STL
My nominees (listed alphabetically):
Patrice Bergeron BOS (61-31-25-56) - Averaged 18:44 TOI, Perennially a finalist for this award, one more and he sits alone with five Selke wins, contributes on both special teams
Sean Couturier PHI (69-22-37-59) - Averaged 19:50 TOI, plays a ton on both special teams and draws all the tough match ups
Ryan O'Reilly STL (71-12-49-61) - Averaged 20:34 TOI, plays a ton on both special teams and draws all the tough match ups
All of these guys are great at face-offs, play on both the PP and PK and draw all the tough match ups. All three are worthy of winning this year.

ROR for me as well.

I feel like Cirelli should have been at least a finalist.
Cirelli is deserving. Same guys as always makes this “club” hard to join. Crosby has deserved a nomination during his career, also, but the club door doesn’t open easily.
FROZEN TUNDRA, 2023-24 league champions, Canadian Hockey Eh
12-team Yahoo league, 10th year. H2H. Keep 15
Aho, Monahan, Coyle, Kadri
Jarvis, Fiala, Slafkovsky, Byfield, Verhaeghe
Josi, Morrissey, Montour
Oettinger, Ullmark, Brossoit
I really need to watch Cirelli to see if he's in the same group as Bergeron and O'Reilly defensively. My vote went to Bergeron. I just feel like he is the most defensively responsible player with offensive skills in the league.
“The Frank J. Selke Trophy is an annual award given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game.” Why is the Selke - and the Norris Trophy, for sure - given with strong consideration as to OFFENSIVE production? There are already offensive awards. Shut-down defenders? No award. Forwards who are defensively strong are judged by their goals and assists. Am I wrong?

Forwards with the highest Defensive Point Shares:
- Panarin - 2.6
- Marchand - 2.6
- Pastrnak - 2.4
- Bergeron - 2.3
- Teravainen - 2.3
- Cirelli -2.2
- Kopitar - 2.2
- Point - 2.2
- Couturier - 2.2
So out of those 3 said, and the fact the top Boston line is up there, I'd go Bergeron, he's prolly doing a ton to boost these metrics for Marchand and Pasta.
Bergeron, ROR, Couturier is the voted order, but I wouldn't have ROR up that high for this award this yr if I'm going off the literal definition of the award. This ones a popularity vote for top defensive players.
