NHL pauses regular season because of coronavirus

Following the USA on this pandemic is the last thing any country should do.

It should be obvious to everyone that if the USA fails, the world fails. Like it or not, hate Trump or not, the entire planet should really be pulling for them to kick the crap out of this. Because the world will follow their lead.

Anyone who hates Trump so much that they want him to fail (or get the virus and die) should really think deeply about what would actually happen after that. Do you have any relatives over 60? Do you care about them?

Yesterday I was crowned the winner of the regular season for our family fantasy league. We had no such award previously but since, you know, no H2H playoffs and all... we called it the Corona Cup. Probably inappropriate, but oh well.

This virus is really only a concern because of the medical resources its going to take to treat it, if their were beds and ventilators available we could get through this thing a lot quicker. For those saying China doesn't deserve any blame are ridiculous. We happily buy their cheap goods knowing their unethical work conditions, so we can pay a third of the cost of a pair of socks but are now outraged because of their poor hygienic habits? Maybe our governments should re evaluate our supply chains and start to develop internally. This should teach people that we are all connected and all have a joint responsibility for each other globally.

The world as we know it lacks versatility. We have great technology and for the most part things run well. We live much better than the vast majority of people in world history. But the world is unable to stop quickly and adapt when problems arise because that means fewer conveniences (ie cheap goods, travel with few restrictions) and less short-term profits for the big companies. People are too busy bitching about the reality show that is American politics to focus on real issues.

Jesus Christ all people can do is blame Trump for everything. How about the Chinese response? How many doctors has Trump imprisoned? If the US can beat this and maintain it's strong footing they can help out their allies - so I'm hoping they do.

Put aside the partisanship, there's a chance the US election could even be delayed. We can all go back to the tribal warfare garbage afterwards, but right now everyone's house is on fire so shouldn't we be dealing with that? My god I wish Canada had a leader with even 10% of the balls that Trump has.

Our own government really needs to step it up. When Trudeau's wife got it, he actually finally did something but it's so half-hearted and weak. Our nation has been left exposed for fear of looking xenophobic and maintaining the insane, suicidal open-borders policy. Now countries around the world are slamming their borders shut and Trudeau is still more concerned with political correctness and not upsetting China by doing very much to protect us (that would be admitting that a virus originating in China exists and might be a problem).

This is pretty much what Macron said during his national address to the French people on Thursday night. This is a google translate, but you get the idea:

The German company in question put out a statement saying: "internal efforts are focused on the development of a coronavirus vaccine with the goal to reach, help and to protect people and patients worldwide. The NHL has issued new directives to players: They are permitted to go home, to any country, and must stay in self-quarantine until the end of March once they get there.

This comes about 48 hours after the NHLPA sent a memo to players saying to hang tight until further direction regarding crossing the border to go home. This new directive from the NHL also a realization that IF the season resumes this year, it won't be soon.
