2020 Dobber NHL Playoff Draft - Discussion

I can see it going one of two ways:
1) Treat it as a five-round playoff. Play-in series count. So do round robin. We hold the draft before the games begin.
2) Start when the real playoffs begin. For this to be feasible I think we would have to do the draft once we know which teams are in (ie after play-in round). I'm not sure if that even makes sense for our setup. I'm not a fan of re-picking players if ours get eliminated.

i don’t like re-picking players as well. It is just an accommodation we made in previous years because we can’t realistically get the draft done in the two day window between the season ending and the playoffs starting.

Yup. And i am hoping that fantrax will accommodate a 5 round playoff pool and make stat-tracking simple and up to date!

I'm for the simple option, round robin counts, play-ins count but if you want something wacky:

The points go up for every round that your player scores them in.

Play-In - 1 P = 1 P
1st Round 1 P = 2 P
2nd Round 1 P = 3 P
and so on...

Or even super-wackier:

You can chose a player for each round where their points count double, but it has to be a different player for each round and you have to declare them AS YOU DRAFT. Not at the start of each round, not at the end of the draft, not right before playoffs begin, AS YOU DRAFT. Make your pick AND declare them as a "Round Captain". Failure to do so, means you forfeit the privilege!

The Evil Twin rule.

Every third pick, or fifth pick, or maybe just one pick at a specific round, you are paired up with an "evil twin" who when your pick arrives, declares what team you MUST draft from.

When your twin's pick comes up you pick which team they MUST draft from.

Think you could get Fantrax or some other website to track the points for these ideas?

if so I am all for trying them out, as a separate draft in addition to the simple one!

Not really wacky... but an idea I have seen tossed out is when you have a small group:

- everyone drafts one player from every team in the playoffs.
- so ultimately everyone has the same amount of players playing in each round of the playoffs.
- everyone has two players playing in the finals but one team could have Marchand and Tarasenko and the other team have Brandon Carlo and Tyler Bozak.

I like the idea as well.

I don't prefer it over the original playoff draft where if I pick the right combination of players from the right team then I can win. Stacking up on the Bruins last year helped me win... I like that concept better.


But I like this one per team idea as an additional draft done as well.
