It's never over until it's over. We have no idea what could happen. For all we know, he could trip and fall awkwardly into the boards and get hurt in his next game and be out the rest of the year. We just dont know.

Ovechkin is at home vs Dallas tmo, does he score the 2 goals tmo to surpass Howe? I think so.

and for the oldtimers, why did Howe not play for 2 seasons 71-72, and 72-73? After that pause, he put up some really good numbers in the WHA
on edit-apparently, he retired in 1971 but the chance to play with his sons in the WHA lured him back

Ovi has record a hat trick in 15 different seasons, the record is 16 seasons set by Gretzky. Ovechkin has played in 18 seasons (including this one). Gretzky played in 20 NHL seasons.
Ovi is also at 6,195SOG and only behind Ray Bourque for all time SOG leader by 14SOG (15 to take the lead).

He's still gotta have another 3 productive, HEALTHY seasons after this one. That's a long time.
They just need to keep feeding him these EN goals whenever they can... 10 ENs each year will go a long way.
