I believe he's at 18 in the past 24 games.
With there being time left in this season, he could potentially hit 894 next season. Chances are no but there's a possibility. With how slow his start was, it would be interesting to know what the issue was.

I said it for awhile. Him not getting pucks on net very early in the season was concerning, aside from that it was just a real bad run of luck that corrected itself. Think about it if he even plays 80% of what he's doing in the 2nd half of the season next year he scores 30.

Ovi is aging, and it shows. But he's still a special player, even now. The net result is he's no longer amazing day in and day out. If you look at the last three seasons, he's had prolonged stretches of above point per game play, but coupled with cold stretches he never used to endure each and every season. The prior two seasons he started strong then faded, while this season it was the opposite. But this is more than enough, as a whole, to give me faith he will break the record and not be a complete shell of his former self once he does is, which would be a nice change from what we saw when Keith Yandle and then, subsequently, Phil Kessel broke the consecutive games streak record.

Ovi breaks Gretzky's goal total next season, while in the same year Crosby breaks Gretzky's most point-per-game seasons record.
