In a keep 10 I traded Jack Hughes, Kaapo Kakko, 10th for Tristan Jarry 10th. Should this have been vetoed?

Keep 10 tells us nothing when we don't know how many teams there are; we also don't know if there are any special rules for rookies or what scoring format you have. Have you asked anyone in the league for feedback on the veto? That's always the first place to start.

Earlier this season Matthews was traded for Aho and not vetoed.

It's a pretty brutal trade. What are your 10 keepers currently? That'll decide it for sure. Not sure why you wouldn't be keeping Hughes in a league that keeps 160 players though. Not saying necessarily it should be vetoed, but it's extremely uneven. You're lucky if it gets vetoed, in my opinion.

Not a good trade but I it should not have been vetoed. Hughes should be a keeper, Kakko maybe not. Jarry is currently a stud goalie putting up great numbers. The Jarry side likely wins this year, at a big price.
A trade the Hughes side will likely regret but again, not veto worthy, especially if the Hughes side is gunning for a championship this season.

The devil is in the details:
- is this a 1, 2 or 3 goalie start league?
- daily or weekly starts?
- are saves a category?
- what are the categories? Are their 8 skater cats and 3 goalie cats? 6 and 4? 11 and 5? 10 and 3?
Basically how ‘valuable/scarce’ are goalies?
If this is a daily start H2H league, with saves as a catagory, that starts 2 goalies and has 6 skater and 4 goalie cats, and you are an elite contending team then this is probably a deal that makes you better this season.
- I said... "God damn this tablet is heavy!"
Hughes and Kakko could certainly be keepers on certain teams, with 160 total keepers.
I'm not sure why this was vetoed. It's a complete bush league if veto's are explained to GMs...
yes this should be vetoed in dynasty, you get two future stars for a goalie with no history/pedigree.

This attitude likely pretty much sums up why guys in your league vetoed it. Jarry is viewed as worth less, despite being more likely to help you win now, because he comes without experience but Hughes & Kakko are guaranteed stars, despite their early struggles, having been picked 1&2. Meanwhile Nolan Patrick will be cut come keeper-selection time and no one will blink an eye.
I don't like the trade myself but wouldn't veto it by any means.
To be honest.....this is the type of trade I would have voted for a veto if it was in my league early in my fantasy hockey playing days. But if this trade helps this year for the GM getting Jarry, who am I to judge......as long as there isn't collusion.

keeping both Hughes & Kakko in a 16tm keep 10 is a pure roll of the dice for that GM. He's committing hard to a rebuild and these two players upside.
In a keep 10 you need the 10 you keep to hit the following year. If one or both fail to deliver and produce like Hischier in yr 2... then Jarry is a landslide winner this and next year
"Similar cats" as most leagues doesn't tell us the value of starting goalies.
Some leagues have 6G cats to 10 skater cats - giving almost 40% of cats to goalies - increasing their value.
Some slant even moreso to goalies.
Or if it's the other way and G cats are under 33% of the cats used in H2H or Roto... then this deal starts to look worse...

Interesting.
While I wouldn't veto it, I also don't understand why anyone would make that deal.
How does one team have the #1 and #2 pick from the same draft, and then traded them for what could have been a mid season waiver pick up?
