Although I think Brian Burke is the logical choice to replace Cherry, I have a feeling HNIC might go another way.

I dislike the idea of Brian Burke hosting next as they just got rid of the guy that the game passed by in the 90's for another that was passed by in the late 2000's/early 2010's. Sportsnet needs to grow its audience as a company not pander to those that will continue to watch no matter what. Reminds me of WWE wrestling these days as they're trying to hold on to the 50+ demographic (the ones that loved the attitude era and somehow stuck around through he PG era) that never grows instead of growing the game

No that’s not true. Nothing confirmed (as of yet at least) shows that he was given a chance to go back on camera and apologize.

The “I meant what I said” is misleading. Just as people saying all he said was “you people” but conveniently leave out the “that come here”.

Don’s interview, it’s apparent he’s just found out like the rest of us what happened. “I meant what I said”, followed by “Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers”. And that’s why I believe he had nothing but good intent. There’s nothing wrong in that. Difference being here he says “everybody in Canada” in which case there’s no problem meaning what he said but on air he said “you people that come here”...he already sort of admits to his wrong wording here. I bet he’d do the same if he was given a chance to apologize/clear things up like Ron was.

He says he wasn’t directing his comments to minorities, and that what he said applies to English, Scottish or Irish immigrants or any newcomer.

Directly from the article. Would appear he was referring to immigrants specifically, by his own admission.

The thing that really gets me fired up about this is all the facebook posts/articles/etc getting spread around in Cherry's defense that conveniently leave out the "come here" part. If he didn't say that part, it would be easily to defend his comment as being directed at all non-poppy wearers. But, he chose words that took his comment from patriotic to xenophobic.

Well it sounds like he had the chance to walk it back and get his job back. He is a smart man; I bet he would never be happy being a "yes" man, so he stuck to his guns. You have to commend him for staying true to what he believes in. To be honest, it might be the best thing for everyone. Many angry people on both sides of this one.

They did, he refused to apologize and said "I meant what I said". He was fired because he didn't apologize, and MacLean kept his job because he apologized.

The only person Maclean should be apologizing to is Cherry.

Just as I suspected.

The man believes in his message but is willing to acknowledge and apologize for the wrong choice of words. This could have easily been fixed if SNet/HNIC let him go on air like MacLean and let him say what he just did on CTV. Everybody. That’s literally it. And all would be fine again.

Pretty ticked off they didn’t do due diligence for Don and let him at least make a follow up appearance to clear himself up. Kicked to the curb just like that. Sigh.

I bet it's really close to 100%. Mind you the liberal voters who are against Cherry, voted for Trudeau with his Black Face scandal and SNC Lavelin incident. Also Trudeau is french Canadian and supports Quebec which has bill 21, which might just be worse then what Cherry just spewed. But Hypocrisy from the left is nothing new. Only agree with what fits their narrative.

Probably not 100 percent... but I am guessing that it is quite possible that the popular vote lost out on this one again!
