Interesting, Raanta is 4.25mill/yr this yr and next, Kuemper is 1.85mill this yr, then 4.5mill/yr from 2020-21 and 2021-22 season.

Seems a bit strange but Arizona hedging their bets for a couple years till someone takes over.

I think Arizona is hoping their is a trade market for Antti Raanta or that he is way more hurt than they are letting on. This would explain both the extension and them picking up Eric Comrie off the waiver wire.

these are my thoughts...very strange moves the last couple of days, unless something is going on with Raanta.

Raanta can't stay healthy so I agree they likely don't trust him. It's also a new era where teams need value from more than one goalie and at some point the teams have to take care of these guys.

It has to be the latter - his health. These moves will drastically reduce his trade value - all the other GMs will know Raanta is toast based on what Arizona is doing here. I have a feeling the injury is looking likely to be a career ender.

this is so true...I bet less than half the teams now have a true #1 goalie who will play 55+

The teams I see with no clear starter and no one who will start around 55 games are CBJ, Isles, Chicago, Arizona, Calgary, Edmonton, and maybe the Kings, Canucks, Sabres. Everyone else has a clear starter. That’s 6-9 of 31.

Only 14/31 teams had a 55+ starter last year

Where did injury factor in to that? I’m talking going in with a clear #1. Best laid plans and all that aside...

I only count 12... Koskinen and Howard played in more than 55... but they both started less than 55.

Injuries are one of many factors leading to teams needing better G depth to get through a season
