The Capitals placed Pheonix Copley on Waivers in hopes that he would be claimed as they are going to be in a cap situation once Kuzy returns from his suspension. They want Samsonov to be the back up Goalie I am almost 100% sure of this. I suppose the 3 days gives the Caps a little time to figure out exactly how they are going to handle this matter, but in the end I expect Samsonov to be the back up Goalie because his money is what fits.

That's because capfriendly doesn't show your who is on waivers, only who is sent down/brought up. Being placed on waivers isn't technically a transaction, it's just a likely precursor to a transaction.Originally Posted by lucafen4

I really think this will light a fire under Holtby to put up numbers this season and say either pay me or look go with this kid. It will also give the Caps a bit of time during the season on back to back games to see what Samsonov can really do.

Depends how he does. If he's bad, sub 20. If he's decent, 20-25, if he's good, 25-35. Washington has 12 B2B, so it's at least 12 with reasonable thinking.

The Capitals are a playoff team and they want that Stanley Cup run to be a long one with a rested Holtby so I definitely don't see Holtby playing 60-65 games. I see him playing more in the range of 50-55 and that will be determined on how Samsonov handles the net.

I figure he will get to play and he's going to push Hotlby the whole way. I see him getting 30 games if he does well early. Makes Holtby fresh for playoffs and gives the caps an extended look at their future starter. I'm really happy having drafted him in the 10th round in one pool and hung onto him from last year in the other.
