Not the Dman I thought they would grab.

Not sure why they would grab him over Djoos. Wait, I know the reason...he's 6'4 and that's all the Jets pro scouts care about.
This was a terrible choice if they wanted to grab a dman.
But Buff's still coming back... maybe... probably... yes?
Even with Buff they needed 1-2 Dmen...
personally, I thought Biega would be the one claimed.

Dahlstrom – Cap hit 850k, salary 700k
Djoos – Caphit/salary 1.25mill.
Jets have 27ppl on their roster, need to trim to max 23players.
Waive Nogier (700K), Appleton (741k), Gustafsson (817k), Heinola (925k) = 3.183mill cap space added
4.465mill+3.183= 7.648mill in space.
Byfuglien, 7.6mill cap hit
Maybe they thought the 1.25mill would be to difficult to tightrope around if/when Buff comes back.

It is possible some think Djoos' injury from last season is a concern.
He had an excellent 2017-2018, where he mostly played alongside John Carlson, with a season ending with a Stanley Cup*.
*Note that Kempny-Carlson found great chemistry during that run. Djoos being relegated to sheltered 3rd pair.
Kempny was then extended that summer for 4 years at a very nice $2.5m cap hit.
A lot of people will remember that Djoos was part of that SC team, but he wasn't key... and Carlson was better off with Kempny.
But 2018-2019 was less than memorable for Djoos.
He really never found his groove with another partner.
I'm not sure NHL GMs are that keen on him... and I think this is why he passed thru waivers.
