Need to pick a starting goalie!
Hi folks,
I am in the position of having to draft a starting goalie, and have the following as options. One or two could possibly be picked before my pick, but I am likely to have a number of these to choose from. Of the following, how do you like rank the following as keepers in a pool where goalies get points for wins (2) and shutouts (3)?
1. Connor Hellebyuk
2. Matt Murray
3. Tukka Rask
4. John Gibson
5. Petr Mrazek
6. Phil Grubauer
7. Pekka Rinne
8. Devin Dubnyk
any input appreciated, as draft is tonight!

Whoops, missed Rask. He's second on my list after Rinne only because Rinne will get more starts.

I like this list, but am reluctant to go with Rinne as this is a keeper league, and I think he may only have 2-3 years left tops. Someone else will pick him before I do
With that said, Rask looks like the pick if he is there, although I think it is close.
My short list with caveats:
1. Rask (his inconsistency scares me)
2. Hellebyuk (loss of Trouba/Buff/Laine/Connor is scary, especially considering he was not great shakes last year WITH all of these guys)
3. Grubauer - could break out on a young talented team, but too many of these situations where career backup moves to starter don't work out (like Hutton last year)
4. Murray - talented, but has tough time staying healthy, and Penguins are not getting any younger
5. Gibson - same as Murray but on a weaker team
6. Mrazek - could surprise as starter on an ascending team

I know my selection will be questioned but me personally I value his consistency since coming to Minnesota and Stalock is god awful so he has no competition for his crease and is one of few true workhorses left. Rask I can never trust healthwise and Rinne I won't touch personally because he is beyond 35 years old. Again this is just me but I value consistency first and foremost and IMO Dubnyk is the least variable year to year.

I also have insanely bad luck with goalies, every year I drafted Bob his groin would explode for instance. Rinne would def go down if I select him as would Rask.Different approaches but good reasoning for each of us I would say. That's all we can do is give our opinions

Honestly, I'd tier them closely given those categories, and would likely be fine taking one when there were only a couple left.
From a potential keeper perspective, Rinne would probably be last on my list, and Hellebuyck first, with the others in the middle.
